What’s your wait time at your doctor’s office, usually?

I rushed to get here for my 9:30 appointment, but no idea why, because I know the drill. 10:02 and still sitting in the lobby. Senior who checked in immediately behind me had a 9:30 appointment...same doctor. I wonder how many other people have a 9:30 appt with...the same doctor. I mean, I like the guy, he’s a Clemson man, but waiting at a minimum 15 minutes past my appointment time EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m here is annoying af. That’s why my dad found a different doc years ago.
Annoying enough to make you go elsewhere, or nah?

I'm not 'technically' a doctor, but I have studied extensively using the texts of Dr. Josef Mengele, so I probably can help.

From the helipad I have to be sprinted through a back door to avoid waiting paparazzi, then up a service elevator, 30 seconds for my personal assistant to sign in with my assumed name of the day, then into the exam room where the doctor is waiting for me with hot coffee and a smile. I’d say 6-7 minutes?

The last time I went to Doctors Care....

Maybe 12 minutes?
I was sick once in Clemson with a bad sore throat, and there were so few doctors available that I just drove to the Doctors Care in Mt pleasant, spent the night and went back home.

I heard someone else mention this, that in general, people involved in healthcare really only know what they learned in college. Like, they may be really good at being a nurse, doctor, or whatever...but anything else in life is totally out of their wheelhouse. And after spending quite a bit of time around healthcare professionals over the past month, I'm pretty inclined to agree with that.
Efficient scheduling? Not possible, cram as many people in and hope we don't get behind by 10am. Common sense treatments? Nope, your 92 year old great aunt MUST stop smoking and exercise more.
It does seem like it's just assumed in hospitals/doctors offices that your time is completely unimportant. You enter their world, and you're going to put up with whatever ######## they throw at you. And they're going to charge you out your asss for that privilege.

He said he feels like he is a piece meal worker. He gets paid for every patient he sees..so that means get them in and get them out ASAP.

of 4 people are some degree of a hypochondriac these days. Which probably partly explains why the waits tend to be long.

Doubt it speeds your doc up, but after your check ask him why he was so late? Tell him your time is valuable snd you were on time and how long you waited. Ask if he really values your business. If it happens again you are going elsewhere. ( Begin looking for an alternative )

You're doing peachy. I wouldn't leave. My mom spends 8 hours a week in doctors offices. My own doc usually takes about 30-45 minutes before I actually see and talk to him.
Pro tips: 1) Avoid specialists if possible. They make you wait longer. 2) ALWAYS schedule your appointment first thing in the morning, that way they don't have any time to get behind. By afternoon they ALWAYS run late.
Pro-pro tip: My health insurance has an app and for minor stuff I can see a doc via videoconference. They can't do bloodwork, etc. but if it's something simple, the app will suffice. Used it twice for sinus infections.

Lately it seems that is longer than the waiting area....
Kinda like the airlines pull away from the gate and count an on-time departure only to sit on the tarmac for 45 minutes.

steadymd.com - $99/mo, I'll just pay for it out of my HSA. Might be a little waste of money, but beats sitting in waiting room. I don't have a family physician anyway, so the only other option is urgent care.
