a "go-to" beer should be one universally available, correct?
Jul 24, 2012, 9:28 AM
|

in pretty much any bar, restaurant, or store.
For me it's PBR. It's my go-to and everything else. Been that way for 25 years+. No pretentiousness with this guy.
If the bar/restaurant don't have that, they don't want my business too badly. I'll just have a sweet tea, or in rare circumstances maybe I can be talked into a Budweiser.

I lack pacing ability with whiskey
Jul 24, 2012, 9:48 AM

it goes down WAY too fast and smooth.
Beer has a built-in pacing mechanism being 12-16 ounces with necessary pitstops every 20-30 minutes.

i have drank a lot of those fancy schmancy designer beers and have come full circle back to American lager.
my new rule is, if it isnt brewed indiginously (in the country you are in), it has a high chance of being funky.
for example, i bought some Stella at the "stab and grab" Bi-lo a few months ago. oh muh gah!!! that sh|t was FUUUNNNNKKKYYYY. wasnt even drinkable. lesson 2, dont buy beers that probably dont move in the establishment from which you are buying.
you snobs can drink funky beer if you want...but not this cat.

If I'm just drinking one, or if I just want a bomber, my go-to is Arrogant #######. If I'm drinking in a tail-gate setting and plan on binging all day, I'll go with Miller Lite or Yeungling (sorry, Celtic). If I'm playing poker and am planning on not driving, I'll go high gravity, depending on the season. (Bell's Hopslam, Sierra-Nevada Bigfoot, just to name a couple)

If I want to just pound a few beers after work or whatever, budlight.
If I want to enjoy a good beer, Sierra Nevada IPA, Torpedo, Ranger, Dogfish 60, or a few of the sweetwaters can always be found in the fridge. Sometimes Mrs CUFOR98 surprises me with a Growler of something from Foothills. I have to be careful with this list though. A few of them, plus getting up several times through the night with the twins = SUCK.
