What's the deal

Feb 17, 2017, 12:31 PM

With all of these transfers? First Baker, then Dye, now Pagano? Two starters gone for next year.

Don't forget Fruhmorgen but none of them were starters which is why they are transfering

Was Baker not a starter last year? And Pagano wouldn't have been one this year?

Big Dex and Wilkins would have been the starter with Pagano and Huggins probably the 2 deep

Baker could have possible made a run at a starting spot in 2017 but injuries kept him from ever becoming the starter in 2016. 2015 was Mac and Tank.

Uh...no.

Baker wasn't just not a starter, he would have been lucky to nab the nickel CB spot. He was pretty good...in 2015. Last year he redshirted because of a torn ACL and he apparently did not trust his knee at all in practice.

That ain't good, not when you've got veteran upperclassmen like Ryan Carter and Marcus Edmond ahead of you, and very talented vets like Mark Fields and Trayvon Mullen pushing for time. And oh, yeah, 5-star AJ Terrell was going to be along in August. Carter read the tea leaves and with just a single year left, he bolted.

Pagano wasn't in that desperate a situation; he was solidly on the 2-deep, likely at the 1-tech "nose" tackle spot. But Dexter Lawrence had taken the starting gig and wasn't going to give it up anytime soon. We'll miss him, IMHO, because if you look, Christian Wilkins, Albert Huggins, and Nyles Pinckney all look like NFL talents, but they're also all natural 3-tech "under" tackles, interior penetrator types. Pagano, like Lawrence, was a pocket crusher who could take on double-teams and tie up multiple blockers.

Still, you can understand why Pagano might have wanted to forge off on his own. He'd start at 95% of schools and he knows it; that wasn't likely ever going to be in the cards for him at Clemson. For his NFL stock, he'd possibly help himself some by using his last year of eligibility to start elsewhere.

Quozzel, I'm glad a few people get it. We'll be fine with out him and he'll be fine without us. He was playing behind younger 1st round talent. He'll start elsewhere and get way more playing time and get drafted a little higher.

Baker,Pagano, and Dye left the right way not like Fruhmorgen.

"I've played multiple sports and would bet any amount that I'm still more athletic than you at this present time...."

Unlike some teams around here...

Feb 17, 2017, 1:43 PM

We have players who would be starting elsewhere but have to fight for playing time here because of all the talent we stockpile and redshirt. Pagano could likely start for any team in the overrated, pathetic SEC east... here, he will be coming off the bench. So if he transfers to UT or UF he will get more playing time and face weaker offenses than he would in the ACC.
