He's still married and a car would be a little bit out of my price range.

I will have help from my two brothers so anywhere from $100-$1000. His birthday is Sunday so I'm looking at maybe getting ACC Championship tickets.

Give him (and you do this with him) tickets to one of Clemson's away games, so just you and he will have some travel time together. Get him engaged in a conversation about his favorite players, his favorite Clemson memories, how he thinks the year will go/is going and what the future will bring. After the game, on the way home, rehash what took place, what went wrong, what went right, how to improve, etc. My son and I did this every week as he was growing up, and even now we rehash each game, recruiting class, etc. I would bet that would mean more to both of you than anything you might just buy and give/send him, because the memories will be carried to the grave, by each of you. I'm planning on doing this for a basketball game (probably Duke) as a Christmas present. Right now though there aren't any tickets I can buy except baseball or the ACC tourney.

A baseball game might be good, as you can get an earlier game time, but being with your Dad is special. Make the most of it. He will be gone soon, and those memories of him and your time together will be all you have.

I actually thought about that but it's probably too late. I went ahead and got tickets for the ACC Championship game. It's probably the coolest thing to see on his birthday within a 2 hour radius.

That is a great gift. I'm just a few years shy of 70 and if I make it that long I just hope my sons will quit hitting me up for loans that never get paid back.

The last time I took my dad to a football game was in 1990 when he turned 85. We went with his brother who was then 80 and a cousin. Of course we smacked Georgia that day about 34-6, the last time we have beaten them and it could not have been a better day, except for the long walk back to park over behind the old Hardees. When he was 72 I took him to the Notre Dame game and when he was 75 my brother took him to the first orange pants game when we kicked the chickens. In 1981, when he was 76, we stood together in Littlejohn for the closed circuit TV of the game when we beat the ##### to finish undefeated. Most of all, give him the gift of time with you. I guarantee in the long run it will mean very much to you.

But I do drink and a nice bottle of Redbreast Irish whiskey or maybe a 24 yr old Bruichladdich Scotch would be quite welcome to go along with the hug.
