They arent in the same division and arent permanent crossover like us and georgia tech. They want to play more often than the rotation. So the league let's them use one of their nonconference game slots to schedule each other.

Wake needs the money and that's the highest revenue game available to Wake.

UNC and Wake are in different divisions but our longtime rivals NC State is UNC‘s permanent cross division rival so in order for wake and UNC to play they must play a nonconference game since the ACC only has eight conference I wish Clemson and Virginia Tech would do the same thing every year .

Va Tech needs us way more than we need them. Their non conference schedule is pitiful. Only ACC teams I would want to play non conference would be UNC or Miami.

I like the current format of beating a 2nd SEC team every year instead of giving another ACC team another loss. I’d be ok with beating a perennial top 20 team from other P5 conferences sometimes too though.
