What is it With Teams Who Have Indians as Mascots

Oct 25, 2016, 4:27 PM

Truly, unless you count rampant alcoholism and casino construction they are not relevant and certainly not fierce or scary since the mid 1800s. Very frankly if some painted dude on a horse with a flaming spear was coming to kill me I would drop him at 100 yards with a .450 Bushmaster or let him get to 25 yards and pop him with a 12-round drum of 000 Buck from the Saiga. If I were feeling froggy I might wait until he was 10 yards out and de-saddle him with my Grandfather's WWII Colt .45.

Silly Seminoles get a new mascot, something relevant to Panhandle Florida, like maybe the FSU Inbred Swamp Bumpkins, now that would be scary.

The Seminole tribe are the only indigenous North American tribe that never settled with the US government on a treatise of surrender .
That is very significant , and something to be extremely proud of for those people who claim the ancestry .

Whatever the case it's still significant and it's not like they are some generic Indian name. Show some respect for fellow Americans. You act like taking the Indians land was right or justified.

I think that the small band of Seminoles (less than 200 ) who refused to surrender to the federals demands and be relocated , fought successfully from a precarious position without any reinforcement or hope of help outside of themselves should be commended and remembered as American heroes .
Maybe that is just me .

It's intersting history, the Seminoles had reminnents of Yemassee

Oct 25, 2016, 10:38 PM [ in reply to Re: It's only because no one wanted their ]

which if you research were responsible for the Good Friday massacre and subsequent Yemassee uprising against the Charles town colonists and Lords Proprietors. They almost took out the colony but the English reenforced and had some help from the Cherokee and ultimately defeated the multi-tribed Yemassee. They pushed them south and into Spanish Florida where they joined the Seminoles. It's also interesting that Seminole translates to 'refugee'.

That post is just wrong on so many levels. Call any other race a bunch of alcoholics and it would be blatant racism. Most Native Americans(including me and my family) are proud of our heritage. Even though I am not Seminole, I can assure you that the vast majority of the Seminole tribe takes pride in the FSU mascot. I do not like FSU, I bleed Orange, but keep the racist crap to yourself.
