What is Tates Locke doing now?

Dec 25, 2015, 10:59 PM

Is he still alive?
I went to his basketball camps in the 70's. It was an excellent camp which taught fundamentals and defense. Camps now a days seems to be more freelance offensive minded. Regardless of what happened Tates was an excellent coach. If I remember correctly he hired bobby knight as his assistant at West Point.

I understand Tates passed away years ago. He was the best coach we ever had...he did write a book, "Caught in the Web" about college basketball I heard but never read it....I will never forget what he said about Lefty, "if the team can get us within 5 or so points with about 2 minutes left, I will out coach him"

The death of coach Locke is exaggerated on Tnet I have not heard of the coach passing away. Great coach who didn't play by all the rules. Not unlike Dean Smith Roy Williams and dozens of others! Locke is a couple of years older than me so is no spring chicken!

Wiki does not report on his death. He was born Feb 25, 1937 (78 years ago).

Blue Chips starring Nick Nolte was based on him.

He's alive and well in his 80's***

To prove the point that "cheating" and " not playing by the rules" is way more powerful and accepted than "losing with dignity" we fondly remember Tates Loche as a great coach and winner. I'll submit we could use another Tates Loche even understanding that he may be a cheater but again, who cares? Dean Smith, Roy Williams, Rick Petino, Larry Brown are all known cheaters and are heralded as our some of our greatest coaches. Scruples are something losers like our Basketall team, can't afford to have, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to reach the top! UNCHeat has more than proven you can cheat on the grandest of scales, win and face no real penalty. I say, cheaters always win, let's win!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So you're saying we should cheat; shame on you

Dec 26, 2015, 9:06 AM

Then we'd be major hypocrites just like UNC whom
we are blasting now or their "holier than thou"
attitude in cover of massive cheating for at least
a couple of decades. We play by the rules or not
at all; this ain't a neighborhood poker game.

Re: So you're saying we should cheat; shame on you

Dec 26, 2015, 9:26 AM

Either way we are going to be hypocritical. We blame Brownell for losing but our players are not getting paid (I really hope our team is not getting paid) we don't have fake classes, no free cars from dealerships, no commissioner in the back pocket, and no Jordan. It's like the Patriots owning Goodell, that's why the Patriots get to cheat all the time and rest of the league just has to accept it. Sometimes you got to fight evil with evil, like get Swafford fired, DRad in and turn the tables.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

NO, we should never cheat...however, I do feel cheated...

Dec 26, 2015, 9:35 AM [ in reply to So you're saying we should cheat; shame on you ]

I think Clemson can do better...but I love this team as I do ALL our teams..
none the less---
Go Tigers!!

Tates Locke had Skip Wise. Skip Wise would make me look like a great coach, and I can't coach a bit.
