But I would never commit suicide under any circumstances. I assume people that do suffer from severe depression which I never have so it’s hard for me to put myself in their shoes.

I have been very fortunate in life. Never had to experience and deal with some traumatic event other than what most people go through (death of a parent, lose job, etc).
I wonder if there are some things that I may not be able to ever get over. What if I accidentally killed my family or a bunch of friends in a car wreck or something? What if my child died directly because of some negligent thing I did? I think about the soldiers that have PTSD and wonder if I experienced something like they have, would I be able to deal with it?
