What happened to the southern conference?

They were once an FCS powerhouse conference but now, not one team left heading into the semifinals.

And this isn't a one year thing. They've been declining for a while.

Ga Southern and App. St. are going to be moving back down here fairly soon. I dont see them continuing with FBS football. Their pay day isnt what they were hoping when this all started. All non power 5 conferences are declining at a rapid rate.

Ga southern was 9-3 overall 8-0 in conference. App State was 7-5 overall 6-2 in conference. Both would have been in a bowl game and Ga southern could've been ranked in top 20 with a win versus a good opponent. I'd say they are doing well in the FBS.

UTC was actually quite good this year and narrowly lost in the quarter finals to the #1 seed. They have a lot of depth and are in the top ten of recruiting in FCS.

Wofford is gonna bounce back next year, SOCON will be strong again just got to reestablish its top programs

I can tell you now, since I live less than an hour away from Ga. Southern, that they will never return to the SoCon. It was an exciting year for them and they will only move forward. I actually think that Ga. Southern could be ACC material as they competed quite well against N.C. State and Ga. Tech.
