What did Dan Devine do

I've seen many folks allude to things Dan Devine said or did before and during the 1977 Clemson-ND game but never really heard what he did. What is the story there?

he gave the crowd the finger a time or two plus continuously whinned about crowd noise

Walked on the field and picked up a penalty flag against nd. Should have resulted in an unsportmanship penalty, but nd being nd in those days got all the calls, so the ref picked it up and no penalty was charged.

a ref had thrown a penalty flag and he walked out onto the field, picked the flag up and put it in his pocket and was booed LOUDLY by Clemson fans

as Devine was leaving the field after the game, some guy through a whole drink all over him. Hated that happened but can say he probably deserved it.
