We're up to 33rd in scoring defense.

Moving up.

Honestly, we should have shut them out. They were a dumpster

Yup.***

Scoring defense is a team statistic. And that touchdown was

Nov 11, 2012, 12:28 PM [ in reply to Hard to shut a team out when you give them the ball on your ]

on the team. Plus, as bad as their offense was, I still think giving up that TD was a failure.

I realize our defense has improved (at least enough to beat our next two opponents)... but I'm not going to pretend holding Maryland to 150-something yards is impressive.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Held them to 100 yards less and 10 pts under their averages.

Nov 11, 2012, 12:33 PM

True, we had a blown coverage on their one touchdown, plus they had about 80 on 2nd and 3rd string defense, otherwise it was good job and continues our trend of improvement.

NC State will be a good test.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This game their entire offense was out. Their best WR, RB,

Nov 11, 2012, 12:45 PM

all 5 QBs. Their averages had nothing to do with yesterday. If a defense is capable of shutting ANYONE out, we should have done it yesterday against Maryland. They were worse than an FCS team because of their crazy injury situation.

I almost felt sorry for them. Almost.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Doesn't change the facts.

Nov 11, 2012, 12:55 PM

They had one TD and a FG after giving them extremely short fields. The TD was a blown coverage, and we held them to a FG after the long return. We held them to ~100 yards before the 2nd and 3rd string started playing. That's good against any 1-A offense, I don't care how many injuries they have.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Facts are worthless without context. It could have been much

Nov 11, 2012, 12:58 PM

worse, we didn't to terribly or anything... but you have to admit it is not a good sign to see a blown coverage against a depleted opponent this late in the season.

The totally wide open guy in the endzone should not have happened, and it is a sign that a better offense, like the next two we are facing, would be able to exploit us much much worse.

I don't see any point in rejecting that.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's tough to go through an entire game w/o a blown coverage

Nov 11, 2012, 1:00 PM

or two. That goes for anyone. If one blown coverage is all you have to complain about, then you are reaching.

Nov 11, 2012, 12:25 PM

Exactly. A muffed punt return, and terrible coverage after a short field goal return resulted in their 10 points. It could have easily been 45-0 or worse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Giving up the TD after the muffed punt was a bit

Nov 11, 2012, 12:50 PM

disappointing. That was a complete blown coverage.
