The Tigers vs The Gamecocks

I always, and sometimes partake, in Tiger and Gamecock bashing back and forth. Just to have legit football discussion, what do you guys think of the matchup this year? I could personally careless about the next two games. They don't mean anything besides a slash in the W/L column but the Clemson game has some things at stake. Well, pride more then anything lol. But I am interested to hear yalls thoughts.
I believe it'll all come down to the trenches, as most games do. I think that South Carolina's DLine is very dominate. And Clemson's OLine is very young, as is ours. Clemson is very dependent on the offense scoring a lot of points to win. And Chad's offense, along with establishing the run, needs good oline play for his plays to develop. I think with the pressure on, it will tough for CU's offense to get going. I think, especially since #21 in injured, it is going to be tough to produce on offense. But, this isn't a biased knock on CU's D, but they just aren't up to par this year. I just do not think the personnel is there, or has developed yet. But one positive is that they have gradually improved.
With that said, I predict a final of 38-24 Gamecocks.
Feel free to flame, but would love to hear some serious talk!

You don't have the offense to score 38.

did score 38 last week. I think it being in CMS will have a big effect on the offense as well. Especially if it's a night game.

it takes for the Tiger O to hold blocks before either the ball is tossed or the runner is in the hole. The pistol is often missing a couple of folks on the corners (TEs), so there's not as much distance or time to the edge. That means our run game just might wear out your D.
If we can hold up your 2 good DEs a bit on pass-blocking, it'll be all over before you can blink. You see, our secondary ain't the greatest, but neither is yours. If there's time to throw (and I think there will be on enough plays), you will be some dead, plucked chickens.
The main difference in the 2 teams is that we have the weapons to exploit your secondary and you don't have enough of them them to exploit ours.
So, we will out-exploit you.....

It's DEATH VALLEY, Coot. They will be playing in DEATH VALLEY.
and by all accounts, your offensive production on the road has been, well, quite offensive. Scar playing poorly on the road and seems to have peaked at the UGA game.
Clemson D getting better week after week. Offensively, Clemson is opening up.
Tigers by 10.

I think SUC had 24 when ML went down. So they almost stopped scoring when that happened. SUC will need 2-3 games versus our TIGERS to score 38.

defenses at their place is a lot different than playing Clemson's defense at their place. But I agree, the Gamecocks have not looked swell on the road this season, at all.

Tennessee game was very interesting

THeir Oline is better than ours, but at every other offensive position, I'd take Clemson. And they managed to score 35 with some mis-queues.
Their defense, I believe, is worse than ours, but not by much. I think we have better LB play.
I think it depends who can surprise who. For a great Defense, teams have managed to score on y'all all year (LSU, Florida(sure, you handed it to them, but they did drive the field a few times), Tenn.) Arkanses will be interesting.
Plus, we have played games where we came out flat or were unproductive for the first few series, but still managed to click at some point.
I think our offense will be more productive this year than the previous. The NCST, for me, will tell how the D will handle things. I think this game will be decided by 10 points or less

Yall cant have a rational conversation with vamecock fans. The OP said nothing deragatory towards clemson, he gave his opinion. Instead of childish comebacks, have a discussion on why you disagree. Yall are very confident but give no details why except what pur opponents have done against us. I have met a lot of great football fans from clemson that can banter and discuss butt i have yet to find one on this site.
I do believe usc will win the trenches but have to worry about the big play and cant turn the ball over. It should be a great game but clowney and devin taylors long arms will stop a lot of vertical paaaing and will be hard to beat.

they're coming from over center. Now, Spurrier did move Clowney around on stunts and shifts toward the middle in their last game, but it didn't work so well.
And as for details, I'll give you all you want. Where would you like to start?

I was just about to say something similar. The Vols have given up only 4 sacks all year long. That's playing UF, Bama, UGA, and the Gamecocks. They have one of the best pass blocking Olines in the country. I think Tenn and Clemson are very similar apart from the Oline. Good QB play, play makers on the outside, decent running game, but a lack-luster defense on both accounts.

if our defense improves over the next 3 weeks linearly as they have the last 6, Gamecocks are SUNK. S U N K. period.
im talking double digit 36 - 13 sunk.
especially since ML is out.
however .... IF our defense regresses (which i dont think will happen) i think it will be a close game. then it will come down to turnovers more than trenches. if you guys beat us there, you could win by 7.
if we win the TO battle at home this year. we win.
just my opinion.

Get why you think usc's offense is so bad. Shaw threw for 350 last weekend against an average d. I wouldnt say clems d is much better than UT's. We struggled on the road at vandy bc our qb was banged up. UF AND LSU are two of the hardest in the country. Clemson can be tough to play at but not exactly foreign territory for us. No excuses for UK but clem has struggled at times this year as well.

Has a decent defense but I do not see their Offense keeping up with ours, Death Valley is gonna be rocking, our team is gonna be fired up, you can say what you want but just because its the SEC doesn't mean the fans are any louder, or the place is any harder to play, just wait and see! Go TIGERS!

Clemson and Dabo have something to prove I say 34-20 Tigers. Our offense will wear your defense down due to your offense bot being able to sustain drives on the road. Connor Shaw will have to have the game of his life and it wont happen.

and an honest Gamecock, imagine that.
I think our d line will have improved substantially by the time we play.
I think our receivers are dominant.
I think we hold the edge on RB now (thougts and prayers for Latti)
and our QB is superior.
dB's might be a little shakey but we shall see.
I do not predict scores, but in the Valley I see a Tiger win.
thank you for the invite and I hope you were treated well in true Clemson fashion.

That dominant D you speak of gave up 35 to a mediocre Tenn and got pushed around all night by a 4th string LSU OL. Our line is much better than you know cause you dont keep up with the facts about Clemson. We are # 3 in the nation in red zone defense and offense.

First of all, when did I say that the whole defense was dominant? Try and find that one for me. Second of all, Tennessee is a pass first team with a very good Oline (Given up 4 sacks all year). And a previous poster was correct in saying that the Gamecocks do not have a great secondary whatsoever. So when Tyler Bray is given time to pack a lunch and eat it too while standing in the pocket with no pressure at all, he is going to throw a pretty ball to some of those stellar receivers.
And I feel as if this years Clemson team has the same make up of the Vols, with out the great Oline. Similar defenses as well. Vulnerable to the big play. I have watched pretty much all of the Clemson games. Tajh's new found mobility has made the CU Oline look a lot better than it really is. He has been GREAT about eluding pressure and making plays. Ex: Auburn, FSU, and Wake early on in the game. If CU's Oline shows up, they will beat USC. 100%, No doubt about it.

TIgers: Let's be honest and not just say we are going to win "just because." Yes, we will be in the Valley. Yes, it will be rocking. Yes, we have the talent to make the plays and get the points. However, this game was in the Valley 2 years ago and that didn't turn out so well for us. Also, we have played them without Lattimore before, and that didn't turn out too well for us.
In my opinion, this game is going to come down to turnovers and big plays. Whichever team capitalizes on some key turnovers and gets the momentum will win this game. The gamecocks d-line with that freak named Clowney will give us some huge problems. If Tajh gets rattled like last year, and if they stop our running attack, we are done. Also, if our D cannot stop Shaw, he will run all over us again.
Yes I believe in feeling confident our team will win just because. However, I know how these two teams have matched up lately and it hasn't been favorable for us. Some key turnovers for either side is what will decide this one.
