Well, the time has come

We had to put down my best 4 legged friend of 12 years last night. She was battling congestive heart for the last 6 months or so and her heart couldn't take it anymore. It's the hardest thing I believe I've ever had to do. She was an absolute part of the family. She was by our side 24-7. She's been with me through single life, apartment life, marriage, several moves, having our first kid, but couldn't make it to see the twins that we'll be blessed with in a few weeks. She was my hunting buddy, drinkin' buddy (lol), river buddy....you name it, she would do it. She loved riding in the truck, boat, jet-ski, and even the lawn mower. She HAD to be with me whenever she could. She lived a great life and I'm better for having had her. She'll be missed.
May she rest in peace. We love you, "purdy girl"! (Not that she could read or anything, lol)

And it's really hard to take, but the right thing to do. Our black lab has had 2 knee surgeries and started holding her leg up a week or so ago. Luckily, the vet said it was just a sprain, and the joint was still working fine. Her life is so different now though: no running, no jumping, no ball. Right now, we're still working up to letting her loose in the yard again, trying to keep her from any sudden jolts to the leg.

Good luck. That was one of Summer's problems. At 12, she still acted 2. Keeping her calm was a problem. My yellow lab, on the other hand, has no problem laying down and doing nothing. Ever. lol

When I was 25 yrs old my aunt, who had a five generation blue ribbon winning Dobermans, offer me one of the last three left of a litter. When I told her I didn't have $500 she told me it was an insult to think anyone could buy one of her dogs for $500 and even more that she would ask me to pay.
There was one black and one red female left with only one male who was also black. I chose the red female and asked she not cut the ears. The tail had already been done.
I picked her up a few weeks later. My ex hit her with one of our cars in our dirt and gravel drive. It was an eighth of a mile long with a bridge over the creek. Our pastor was sitting on the porch when I got home. That probably save the b1tch's life. The 3-4 month old dog died.
I grieved for two weeks. I couldn't face that pain again so I never got attached to another dog. I know just how you feel brother. I'm really sorry for your loss.

Our 12 year old black lab recently lost her last good eye, and the vet basically killed it to keep her from being in pain. She is completely blind now.
When that time comes..it won't be good.

would put human beings into the hospital. Our Dixie was like that, looked and acted pretty good, until she stopped eating one day, and it was too late.
