of another nationality comes into the country on a student visa and then expects to just be allowed to stay forever. Then act like being removed from the country is some agregious attack.

Being allowed to come and study here is generous in the first place.

Well, she had ultimately obtained permanent residency

and had graduated the summer before. She had started a company here. My parents moved to the US from Germany in 1973. They lived for twenty years as legal residents despite their foreign nationality until they became citizens of this country.

If we had historically told people that they had to go back after their visas ran out with no possibility of permanent residency, this country would be pretty empty.
