If you want to see the Pelosi Bill that is gumming things up

Mar 24, 2020, 9:37 AM

here is a link to all 1,119 pages of proposed taxpayer spending...

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZBKx2BQ9DlA8ohBIE7ORcdvLX8j3C9Ug/view

$30 million for the Kennedy Arts Center??, $300 Million for the National Endowment for the Arts and another $300 Million for the National Endowment for the Humanities?? (found on pages 77-80) Not exactly what I would call critical industries or needed funding in the COVID-19 fight. Of Course Senator Cotton has pulled out quite a bit more:

1. Corporate pay statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate boards at companies receiving assistance

2. Bailing out all current debt of postal service

3. Required early voting

4. Required same day voter registration

5. 10k bailout for student loans

6. For companies accepting assistance, 1/3 of board members must be chosen by workers

7. Provisions on official time for union collective bargaining

8. Full offset of airline emissions by 2025

9. Greenhouse gas statistics for individual flights

10. Retirement plans for community newspaper employees

11. $15 minimum wage at companies receiving assistance

12. Permanent paid leave at companies receiving assistance

Many of those are worthy topics of debate - but not in a Coronavirus bill to help American citizens.

You must be looking at a different list then because I'm not seeing anything in there I would support during good times, much less when your trying to supposedly save people's lives.

It is a scary freaking thought those 2 commies are anywhere around Washington.

The required same day voter registration is the one their using to basically win every election from here on. You think their using dead people to vote now, next the dead persons Cousin Javier from Guatemala will be voting in every state election from Oregon to Little River S.C.

No truer statement has every been made. It’s been a major effort to get rid of the Clinton’s. We can thank Winston Churchill’s daughter in law for the rise and success of the Clinton’s. She saw him on TV at a protest and said that man has potential if I work with. Even Lee Atwater warned us of the Clinton’s. When the Clinton’s came to Washington DC they brought a lot of slime with them. Nancy Pelosi, Diane Fienstein, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and so many more that want to destroy this country.

But if you take notice somehow they are all millionaires now. The Demstry to keep us divided by racism so we want look to closely at how they are stealing us all blind while we fight one another.

President Trump is trying to unite us all make us all successful, but the Dems keep getting in the way with lies and deceit. Wake up people now is the time to take our country back.

Thanks for the summation. Some I actually agree with and btw- not just the Dems. It's Republicans too. I definitely want it to explicitly state no executive pay or stock buybacks.

The airlines and cruise ships will be just fine with a month shutdown if the actual employees get paid.

Re: If you want to see the Pelosi Bill that is gumming things up

Mar 24, 2020, 10:20 AM

Stock buy backs help all shareholders, not just the executives. I am not a big fan of them, but quite frankly I worry more about all of the thousands of other share holders that benefit rather than a few executives that benefit. Why does this belong in the Covid bill? IF these things have merit then they should pass in a stand-alone bill. I am sure that the Republicans do have some iffy parts of the bill they want passed too, but they seem to understand that helping businesses ultimately helps the employees. Dems think somehow that crushing the leadership and owners of companies somehow benefits the workers. That is a tough sell when a company goes bankrupt because of unreasonable red tape and demands.

Re: If you want to see the Pelosi Bill that is gumming things up

Mar 24, 2020, 12:31 PM

It belongs in the CoVID bill because absent a requirement, companies are likely to do the exact same thing they did a year and a half ago with the last tax gift: lay people off and reward themselves.

Large corporations that get money from taxpayers (that is supposed to help them not lay off staff) should not instead be allowed to use that money to buy back stock.

You obviously work for a good company and probably should stick with it.

My post above really had nothing to do with politics. Debate whether or not stock buybacks are good for the workers too... Same with exec pay. No the people that this is affecting the most could careless about stocks, they need cash to buy groceries. That was my only point.

Big companies are not going to go out of business just because a few workers are out of work for 2 or 3 weeks. Big business and Boeing as trump likes to tout fold, there's another co waiting to take its place. Obsolete company go out of business.

The Republicans presented a relatively good bill.If Pelosi and her gang were interested in the Caronavirus aspect, they could have very well worked with the (Rs) to tighten up some of the loose ends to prevent fraud, etc. There was never any intent on their part to solve the problem but to try to destroy any semblance of a solution. When they saw the public, including some Democrats, beginning to swing to Trump's defense, they began to see a little backfire. This maneuver by Polosi and her gang may come back to haunt her come election day.

After the crash in 2008 and the government bailout, companies used the money to buy back stock, drive up the stock prices and paid exorbitant bonuses to their executives without rehiring their employess.

It CANNOT be allowed to happen again. Whether you want to believe it or not, some of the workers that lost their jobs and significantly impacted in 2008, were just recently recovering. All this money needs to be used to keep the companies and employees whole and not artificially prop up the stock value and line the pockets of executives. The stock will come back on its on as "workers" invest.

They think they have the president over a barrel and are trying to get all of their failed legislation passed. Mar 24, 2020, 10:33 AM

Oh boy... here we go again. You TDS guys like to throw out all kinds of crazy sh*t (and that is what it is) without any type of basis in reality. You have ZERO proof that President Trump doesn't care about people dying from this disease. But we have PLENTY of proof to the contrary - what the he1l do you think he and the Cornoavirus Task Force has been doing? Do you think Trump agreed to shutting down the country in order to give everyone a vacation? No - he is doing his best to SAVE LIVES. The fact is President Trump doesn't hate anyone and has followed the expert advice of the Coronavirus Task Force every time. Dr. Fauci confirmed this during the Levin interview this weekend.

Now, President Trump is also correct in that we have to start looking at opening the country back up. There is a tipping point to where the cure can be worse than the disease and the President is correct in pointing this out. Rational people see this - emotional anti-Trump trolls just want to use it as yet another deranged talking point. Just yesterday, one of your very own - Governor Cuomo said essentially the same thing as President Trump:

"CUOMO: Remember, you studied the numbers across the countries that have been infected. The survival rate for those who have been infected is like 98%, right? A lot of people get it, very few people die from it. So how do we start to calculate that in? We implemented New York Pause, which stopped the essential workers, etc. We have to start thinking about New York Forward. And Steve Cohen and Bill Mulrow, who I've worked with for 30 years and now in the private sector, they're going to start to think about this, how do you restart or transition to a restart of the economy? And how do you dovetail that with the public health strategy? As you are identifying people who have had the virus and have resolved, can they start to go back to work? Can younger people start to go back to work because they're much more tolerant to the effect of the virus? So how do you -- you turned off the engine quickly. How do you now start or begin to restart or plan the restart of that economic engine? Separate task, but something that we have to focus on."

1 out of 5 need to be hospitalised. It's a no win situation. You open up the country and the virus spreads and the health care system gets overwelmed. then the percentage of people dying will raise from the approx. 2-3% to something higher like 5%. but even if its 2 % and only 1/3 of the US population gets it, that's about 100 million people. So you are looking at 2 million deaths. That's a lot of bodies.

you’ve really got to stop watching fox news. Trump lies constantly in his press briefings and has to get corrected by the experts moments later. Now his attention span can’t handle a long shut down so he is repeating fox news nonsense about the “cure” being worse than the virus. The US is in trouble because our leaders still aren’t taking this seriously. Thankfully our state governments are doing a better job in their approach than the federal government. Im not a fan of McMaster but he is atleast taking this seriously, unlike Trimp

George Washington had the same problem: "This tribe of black gentry work more effectually against us, than the enemy's arms. They are a hundred times more dangerous to our liberties, and the great cause we are engaged in."

Empires generally fall because of traitors within, not enemies without.

$240B and $100B, respectively. A far cry from the $2B or so Trump said was too much for the CDC two weeks ago.

Democrats successfully got the Senate bill changes to give everybody making less that $75k/$150k the same $1200/$2400 bucks and got an additional $500 per kid. Like every educated American, I understand that all spending bills have to start in the House of Representatives.
