State of the rivalry / Point spreads

Nov 18, 2018, 11:12 PM

The opening line of 25.5 in favor of Clemson caused me to do some research. Using the Oddshark historical database, I went back and found out that double-digit lines are very rare, and in fact South Carolinas has never been a double-digit favorite (the highest I could find was 5.5, back in 2001).

As for Clemson, the Tigers have been 13-point or more favorites four times in the history of the rivalry, and the crazy thing is that three of those four years have been the last three. Clemson was a 14.5 favorite in 1999 and won 31-21, but was a 13.5 favorite in 2017 (Clemson won 34-10), was a 26-point favorite in 2016 (and won 56-7), and was a 20.5 favorite in 2015 (and won 37-32).

It will be interesting to see which way this line moves - if it moves past 26 it will be a record.

The talent gap is bigger than it has ever been in my time . There is no way that if both teams play their best football in this game that Clemson won't win by 3 scores or more .
The Coots just simply do not have the tools for the job .

True. Isn’t it odd that they can fill a football stadium with tools year after year and yet they never have the right tools for the job?

Curious to know what the line was in 1989? Score = 45-0
