If Clemson split roster in half, both teams would be ranked

Oct 27, 2018, 7:46 PM

Clemson football has developed depth that continues to play at a high level. If we split our team in half like the Spring Game, both teams would be ranked in the Top 25.

How high?

If we did fairly even split, then both teams would be in the Top 10.

If we did A team and B team, then A Team is ranked Top 5, while B team is likely ranked around 15-20.

This is unreal to consider.

Good thought of the night!
Yes, it is unreal.

Not sure how high Team B would be ranked. It's all about consistency and not getting upset by teams with good schemes but lesser talent.

Regardless, Team B would outrank the Fighting Chickens. Both of them.

In the Palmetto Bowl, Team A could sit out the entire first half and go in at halftime with a lead.

My guess is that we'd lose too much depth.

80+ scholarships is one team. While the younger players can run route, block some assignments and draw attention some aren't quite ready to take on the responsibility of a starting job yet.

We might be able to make one top team and perhaps a good d2 with the rest but the injuries from fatigue would turn both squads into mush after a few weeks of long extended periods of play and injuries from fatigue could ruin either squad.

It's not practical to think in terms of half a team being complete. There's be exploitable gaps all over the field and every flaw would be exposed.

Imo, that's the primary reason an NCAA team could never compete with a pro team too. It's quite outrageous to consider.

We would at least be the two best teams in the ACC.***
