I know Virginia wants to win the ACC championship, but that would probably knock us out of the playoffs and we would go to the Orange Bowl and Virginia would go to a lesser bowl. Am I thinking correctly?

No. The Orange Bowl is contractually obligated

to take the ACC Champion if the ACC Champion isn't selected for the playoffs.

We would likely go to the Sugar Bowl in that scenario.
