We need our own tiger
Jun 26, 2012, 2:47 PM
|
|
I think we should have our own tiger and habitat.. Something similar to what LSU has, but better of course. During a recent vacation to New Orleans I made a side trip to check out LSU's stadium and their mascot. While I wasn't overly impressed with the stadium I was impressed by the new habitat they built for their mascot Mike the tiger.
Here's a clip about the setup I found on Wiki: ”In 2005, a new $3 million habitat was created for Mike. The Tiger Athletic Foundation (TAF) raised funds, entirely from private sources, to subsidize the construction project. The habitat features state-of-the-art technologies and includes among its amenities lush plantings, a waterfall, a flowing stream that empties into a wading pond, and rocky plateaus. The new habitat ranks among the largest and finest Tiger preserves in the country and expanded Mike's home from 2,000 to 15,000 square feet. It also features research, conservation, and husbandry programs,as well as educational, interpretive, and recreational activities.
So why can't we do that? If 80,000 Clemson fans gave 40 each something like that would be feasible to do. I'm sure corporate sponsors would also be interested in attaching their names to such an effort. Plus I'm sure that it would bring excellent press to our sports program and university as a whole.
What do y'all think?

It would be neat, though - would love to hear it growl over the speakers in DV.

awesome spot for something like that...i was hoping they would have created something more closely associated with the football team there. Something similar to the large panthers at bank of america stadium.
Don't get me wrong I appreciate the military memorials all over campus and am proud of that heritage but that one spot would have an awesome spot for a focal area for espn to set up shop and film these intimidating Tiger statues or something like what you're talking about because it basically is in a spot that would be a backdrop to the team when they run down the hill. Huge missed opportunity.
I think LSU has a big Vetrinarian program and thats a big reason they have an actual tiger at LSU.

In my opinion our athletic program should be/is the entity in charge of paying our coaches. I don't think it would be proper to have what would amount to fundraising (as LSU did to acquire their new habitat)in order to pay coaches. What I was proposing would be money raised from donations by the fans of Clemson athletics and in particular Clemson football. LSU's "resources" really have no bearing on how the money was raised for Mike the Tiger's habitat.

We should put it in the tunnel where the away team enters the stadium. So they will see the Tiger and hear the roar of the crowd. That will get them all shaken up before the game.

If a handful of (pardon me) nitwit Clemson fans want to have a live mascot simply to parade on football Saturdays, I say instead lets setup a Clemson Fund for Save The Tigers!! And start funding tiger habitat re-nourishment and conservancy worldwide.....PLUS, put a sizable bounty on poachers AND the Dark Ages Chinese vendors who sell tiger organs and bones to the Dark Ages Chinese public----bring'em in dead or alive and collect a tidy sum....by doing this, we'll also be protecting bears (even local bears)and other endangered wildlife around the globe from the evil grip of commercial folklore science.
