Townsend tries to combine passion with technique

Lateek Townsend doesn’t do anything halfway, whether its playing special teams, trying to deliver a knockout blow on defense or even giving interviews. Full Story »

Lateeeeek!!!!! light em up^^

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was a terror on ST

Mar 16, 2012, 8:14 AM

He was always the ont making the tackle or was around the ball handler. The way our D played last year I would hav eput him in against GT and told him to take off their QB's head. I don't care if we may have missed a fw assignments, our starters missed assignments! If you put in a headhunter and just tell him to lay the wood on the qb eventually the QB is either going to be too scared to make the right call or leaves the game becuase he's being hit too often.

Teek is going to be a beast in this new scheme when he gets everythign down

I don't know why our defense can't be full of guys like this, who just want to knock the crap out of everything they see.

That's not knocking our players...it's just at testament to how physical this kid really is. And he's a great interviewer.

I think he, Anthony and Steward on the same defense is dangerous. Hope Steward heals up quick.

Agreed! I would love for everyone to be healthy to start the season! Other than Steward, is there anyone else that is injured?

I think Hall is healing up still. He wasn't at a 100% last season and you could tell, because I thought he was one of our most consistent DB's two years ago, even more than Marcus and Byron.

I think Joe Gore is healing up, too.

We need more

players on both sides with his attitude.... I really think though were about 1 more recruiting class away to being able to compete with the big boys

Wow, I like this kid! That interview was not what I expecte

Mar 16, 2012, 10:55 AM

I have no idea why I had painted him into a box, but that wasn't what I expected. I thought he was a hot head coming in last year, who maybe played outside of himself. I had him pegged as cocky and I guess immature, but wow was I wrong. He says the right things, and he was a beast on ST last year. I hope he can bring that same blast to the LB corp. I loved his answers on the defense and mentioned being coachable several times. Very impressed with this kid.

PS when another dood nearly knocks himself out, don't help him up to run off the field.

LOL! That cracked me up.

Mar 16, 2012, 2:13 PM

Brent Venables

with our DL being young like they are,it would help them
alot if our LBs step up big time.
Speaking of LBs...Sup' with Justin Parker.Ya never hear
much from tis kid.

I surely hope that Lateek sees a lot of playing time this year. I would rather have an aggressive and intimidating player making mistakes than what I have seen from our linebackers in recent years. I would like to see some "new blood" from the linebacker corp this year. They can do no worse than some of the returners.

Parker is either not as good as we thought

Mar 16, 2012, 3:33 PM [ in reply to Brent Venables ]

or simply never figured out Steele's scheme. Most likely it's a combo of the two.

Lateek

For some reason he riminds me of that OLB that played at A&M and got drafted by the broncos....When i see our personell on defense...i just wish we would switch to a 3-4
