ND RB commit Chris Tyree

May 23, 2019, 4:58 PM

Holds nearly a 5* ranking with off the chart agility numbers especially for a RB
4.38 40 yard dash
3.8-3.9 shuttle time (faster than anyone in the NFL combine)
But only 5-8 178lbs

Would you like a RB like this at Clemson?? I don't know how Chris will translate to the NCAA but to me it's hard to imagine a back of that size having a ton of success against top teams.

Can he block a line backer rushing the quarterback?

May 23, 2019, 5:04 PM

If not he's no good to Dabo. Can't use him

Didn't LSU have a RB similar to that a few years ago? Fast as lightning, and quick moves. My memory might be wrong, but I think he was darn good and went pro.

Trindon Holliday...5'5" and about 160 lbs.

Brief pro career, fast but not big or strong enough to last. Had some kick return TDs in the league, though.

Warrick Dunn was a little dude and he destroyed us***

except we all know that the size of the fight in the dawg is only about 3/4.

So really it is not the size of the tiger in the fight, but the size of the heart in the tiger!"

We had a guy like that with Mike Bellamy

May 23, 2019, 5:16 PM

I think academics were his downfall, but he struggled on the field too;was just too small and not strong enough to hold onto the football.

Re: We had a guy like that with Mike Bellamy

He had 57 carries for 343 yards which is 6 yards per carry. I seem to recall the fumbles were more with the way he held the football, which isn't unusual for a freshman.

Warrick Dunn is listed at 5'9". Some times those short guys can go under tackles and break free.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Barry Sanders is 5'8".. Emmitt Smith is 5'9"

May 23, 2019, 6:01 PM

He needs to put weight on, but most high school kids do.

Yes we can definitely use him, especially if he can catch.

Our defense would stretch him to about 5'11"!!!!

Maybe not at Clemson, but there are examples of small backs being successful on P5 NCAA teams.

Jacquizz Rodgers was 5'-6" 180 lbs coming out of high school and had nearly 4000 yards in 3 years at Oregon State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was just going to post about him. Rodgers lit people up.

May 24, 2019, 8:51 AM

Old school coaches call those guys 'waterbugs'. The ND commit will most likely be very good.

May 24, 2019, 7:57 AM

Clemson's Stacey Driver was 5'7 and certainly held his own.

Darren Sproles is 5'6, 181 and has been successful everywhere he's played.

Lot's of big backs failed on the grid iron too.

Re: ND RB commit Chris Tyree

May 24, 2019, 12:23 PM

Sproles was thicc though. His legs were like tree trunks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just send him to the SEC East

May 24, 2019, 7:58 AM

then he can keep playing high school level football and UGA once a year.

It's not height but weight that is necessary for a RB in college.

On a 5'8" frame, 178 lbs. is plenty.

My guess is that he will finish his college career somewhere around 195 or 200 unless he gets a little taller and can add more.

My best comparison that all Clemson fans will know is Andre Ellington.

He was a very similar size coming out of high school if not a little lighter. Put on about 15 pounds in his redshirt year and finished his career around the 200 pound mark.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just get him some space and lookout

May 24, 2019, 1:30 PM

He's not an every down back but could you see him coming around from the slot and catching the "pop pass"?
