flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WOW who saw that coming?

Mar 31, 2012, 9:11 PM

is Spurrier upset because he wasnt the first to come up with it? Or because its another chance for a loss?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I actually wouldn't have seen that coming from Spurrier. He

Mar 31, 2012, 9:14 PM

is a super competitive person I've heard so you'd think he would like the idea.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Spurrier is not for going Ll out in the spring

Mar 31, 2012, 9:34 PM

He worries about serious injuries in spring ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Spurrier is not for going Ll out in the spring

Mar 31, 2012, 9:46 PM

u can get same injuries goin against your own team

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Spurrier is not for going Ll out in the spring

Mar 31, 2012, 9:47 PM

You can it it's easy to control when it's your own team?

Guys are not trying to rip you a new one like they would be going up against players from another team

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No to mention noone really cares about the final score

Mar 31, 2012, 9:51 PM

Introduce another team in a sport where so much is determined by opinion and you begin to have players hitting harder than they would've been in an intrasquad game.

Re: Spurrier is not for going Ll out in the spring

Mar 31, 2012, 9:52 PM [ in reply to Re: Spurrier is not for going Ll out in the spring ]

thats a ridiculous argument...nfl does this constantly...you can monitor it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But in the NFL the outcome of the game truly means nothing

Mar 31, 2012, 9:54 PM

In college ball where preseason rankings can determine who gets to play for the title, players will necessarily be playing and hitting harder.

Re: But in the NFL the outcome of the game truly means nothing

Mar 31, 2012, 9:56 PM

there wouldnt be media it would be closed....we even did this in high school...wasnt in spring but in summer camp

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Closed as in no fans?

Mar 31, 2012, 9:57 PM

Then its just a intersquad closed scrimmage?

If that's the case I have no real problem with it.

Re: Nfl teams use a lot of backups - totally different than

Apr 1, 2012, 10:41 AM [ in reply to Nfl teams use a lot of backups - totally different than ]

very few of the names you hear called during the spring games will have a major impact on the season. it's the 2nd,3rd,4th stringers making a last ditch effort to move up on the depth chart. the spring game culminates the 15 spring practices allowed ( for most teams, i have heard of that a few teams that have the spring game and then a few more practices) the coaches have plenty of tape to evaluate the players from the scrimmages and practices. the spring game is as much for fans as it is the team.

Re: Nfl teams use a lot of backups - totally different than

Apr 1, 2012, 11:28 AM [ in reply to Nfl teams use a lot of backups - totally different than ]

We use lots of backups, too. The teams are divided, somewhat equally, and each will have some of all the players on the roster. It is usually somewhat situational, but it could be done. I had rather have it like it has been that to invite another team and not let fans attend. Teams that have a huge turnout for that game, i.e. Alabama which boasts 90,000 that attend their game, will not be in favor of it if they don't let fans attend and miss that revenue, IMO.

Soooo Superier thinks being more competitive is bad?

Mar 31, 2012, 9:12 PM

Not surpsising coming from a school and fan base that complain when they have to face the real competition in their conference. Just thinking of all the crying they did about pulling LSU next year makes me laugh.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Soooo Superier thinks being more competitive is bad?

Mar 31, 2012, 9:16 PM

Did you ever stop to think how easy it would be to leave the conference if they didn't want to play those teams?Use that space between your ears.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How easy? b/c i'm pretty sure UK, Vandy, Miss. State

Mar 31, 2012, 9:20 PM

love getting slaughtered every single year. I don't think it's really easy to get out of the conference you are in

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's not easy to leave...

Mar 31, 2012, 9:36 PM [ in reply to Re: Soooo Superier thinks being more competitive is bad? ]

...when no one wants you! Plus, they want the money and to brag about the conference they're in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A coot questioning my intelligence?

Mar 31, 2012, 9:56 PM [ in reply to Re: Soooo Superier thinks being more competitive is bad? ]

Now that is an insult. Fact is that SC doesn't want to leave the SEC because they love being able to use the fact that they are a part of the SEC to in some way elevate the non importance of their school.

Fact is coot that you have been and always will be the door mat of the real SEC schools and that your fan base is okay with that as long as they can brag about being in the SEC. Don't believe me then just look and listen to all the fans you had whinning when you had to play a tougher schedule next year.

Great teams want competition and to prove that they are the best by playing the best. Your school doesn't hence it's continued irrelevance

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We don't want to leave the sec because at would be stupid

Apr 1, 2012, 8:51 AM

Too much money, to much prestige- too many benefits in all sports.

Not worth talking about since it's not an issue

Sure we can question your intelligence- if you can do it- you can get it right back.

complaining

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I actually agree with Spurrier on this one

Mar 31, 2012, 9:49 PM [ in reply to Soooo Superier thinks being more competitive is bad? ]

The purpose of the spring game is to have a controlled scrimmage where you can try different players and give the fans a chance to see them. The competition of who wins is so far secondary that it isn't even in the minds of the coaches.

Introduce playing other teams in a sport that determines so much by opinion will begin, I believe, to cause the coaches to have to think of playing the game almost as if its a real game which removes part of the experimental value of the spring game.

I'd have no problem with the game at all if the sport weren't so driven by where teams are ranked in the preseason.

Edit : Someone above said it would be a closed scrimmage. Don't really see a problem with it if that's the case.

Re: I actually agree with Spurrier on this one

Apr 1, 2012, 1:46 AM

why would any one rather have a closed scrimmage that no one sees? at least in the spring game fans attend. what would dabo say if yall scrimmage wofford and he losses two starting d line man from cut blocks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I actually agree with Spurrier on this one

Apr 1, 2012, 6:08 AM

all teams have lost players in spring games before, and also just in practice. look at latty's knee injury- he was just going for a block, and blew his knee before the contact.injuries are a bad part of football, but they will happen.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But that is in a game

Apr 1, 2012, 8:49 AM

Playing another team in spring practice is just inviting serious injuries - for no reason

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

People already get injured in spring games.

Apr 1, 2012, 11:22 AM

How would the risk go up when you have half as many players on the field?

The NFL has been doing this for years, and I'm not talking about preseason games, the Falcons for instance have held joint practices with the Jaguars and Dolphins. Surprisingly there were no serious injuries.

High Schools all over the nation do this also. College football is the only place it doesn't exist.

Anything and everything else involving them, their recruiting, their record, the SEC, their coaches, their whatever, i don't give a #### about, period. i'm not wasting one single brain cell on them because they are irrelevant to me except for that one Saturday in the fall where i hope like hell that Orange and Purple uniforms drive them into the ground like the ##### step children that they really are and always will be.

Why is it that CU fans think that Dabo creates/invents everything? First it was "all in". This phrase was stolen/borrowed from poker. For some reason, though, Dabo should get every ounce of credit for using it.

Now it's this idea. This idea has been thrown around forever. Hell, I remember Will Merritt talking about it on his show about 2 years ago.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

another chickentroll whose opinion is unasked for

Apr 1, 2012, 11:12 AM

and unnecessary.

Only the media said this was Coach Swinney's idea. While espousing the scrimmages, he never took credit for the idea. The fact is, Tommy Bowden mentioned this same thing years ago. The media makes mistakes. Sorta like the media giving credit to Spurrier for something your dumbaZZ pbp announcer said earlier this season.
