So how does dropping OOC games help with the virus

Jul 9, 2020, 4:57 PM

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but what good does 3 to 4 games do to help mitigate virus spread?

I just don't see football being played. I see this as a house of cards, one school says they are out, and the season crashes for everyone.

Talk about a scheduling nightmare.

The one reasonable point I’ve heard in favor of conference only is the funding disparity between P5 and FCS. Clemson and UGA can afford more testing than Citadel and App State. We could be risking our health by hosting a team that doesn’t screen to a similar standard.

I could see reduced travel costs and risks associated with conference-only play. The Tigers could get to most road games by bus, and avoiding airports and planes would limit risk.

We could take a bus to Winston-Salem and Atlanta. Don't

think we'd drive to South Bend, Tallahassee, or Chestnut Hill.

It doesn't. I am very disappointed in our conference leadership.

With only 21,000 in the stands mean we don’t have the money to pay them.

and the regional argument doesn't hold any water

with Boston going to Miami, Nebraska to Maryland, West Virginia to Texas and all the other whacko alignments out there.

If we go conference only, it may mean that we don’t play the ones we normally play like BC.

Fewer mass gatherings = fewer probability of spread. I suppose it is the stats of it all. However, it does seem a bit arbitrary. We do not know by how much the probability is reduced. My suspicion is that it would look sorta like a first order function assymptotically approaching 100% as the number of games increases, with it getting pretty darn close to steady state after only a few games. The rise time, so to speak, would be 3 or 4 games, I suspect. So yeah, have 5 games or have 14 games, no big difference. Just my guess.
