We choose to not be elite in basketball

Mar 9, 2018, 9:56 PM

We have chosen the football path. Be happy for it!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we are more committed than we've been....

Mar 9, 2018, 10:00 PM

in the past. I think Clemson brand overall has gotten stronger and with the upgrades will be a much better program consistently. What is elite exactly? We're not going to be Duke. but we wil be making the tournament more consistently.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why can’t we be like Duke, exactly?

Mar 9, 2018, 10:26 PM

We get top football talent to come to little ol’ Clemson. We could do the same in basketball if we really wanted to.

Seems like a stretch to me.

Mar 9, 2018, 11:12 PM

I don't thin we will ever be able to recruit at that level. That said, it will be interesting to see what happens when Coach K retires from Duke one day.

I think we suffer from the same fate as the coots in football. We're in a conference with heavyweights in basketball. We had a top recruit in our backyard with connections to Clemson and the appeal of Duke was still too much to overcome. I'll never write us off, but I think it's always going to be an uphill climb.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We could, over time; but it won't happen overnight.

Championships and long-standing tradition means something in college athletics. Right now, as of today, it is much easier for Duke and UNC to recruit, simply based on history, tradition, and brand, than it is to recruit at Clemson. Everybody has to start somewhere, however, and all of that is not an excuse or a reason not to strive to build that tradition, nor does it mean that it can't be done.

Well, Duke has their world famous Brotherhood.

It will take some time for sure.

There are not as many great B.B. players 6 foot 10 that can move quickly and etc as they are football players. Wishful thinking get you nowhere

What was Duke before coach K? Exactly. I do not think there is any reason why we cannot be a top 25 program consistently. Probably would have happened if Barnes stayed.

If it has to be one I’m glad it’s football and wouldn’t trade it. But I’m greedy and think we should be good in everything.

We should choose both instead. Florida in the late 2000s did it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They had Billy D. They are still committed now...

Mar 9, 2018, 11:14 PM

but those days are over.

Ohio State and Michigan have also made national championship games in the last decade. Wisconsin too.

Obviously its ridiculously hard to win multiple natties in both sports but being a top 15 program in both sports is very possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we can be top 20 caliber team somewhat....

Mar 9, 2018, 11:22 PM

consistently. AN advantage for Mich and Ohio STate is that there are solid recruits consistently in their home states. I agree though that we can consistently be a top 20 caliber team, or at least somewhat consistent. I think it will happen actually.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we'll get there... we are on the right track.***

Won't happen with Brownell as the recruiter.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's recruiting better already. Plus...

Mar 9, 2018, 11:40 PM

we are a tournament team now. Anyway, the recruiting class on the way is an upgrade.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As somebody somewhere said....

Mar 9, 2018, 11:58 PM

the best is yet to come.

So we are choosing to lose at things ?

Any truth to the rumor that we've modeled our losing efforts after the Coots , who set the standard ?
