Tearing down and building a new deck this coming week.

May 21, 2020, 8:55 PM

No pallets will be used. I'll post deck pics later.

I think we are going to go the patio route with a built-in fire pit. Too many critters trying to make their way under the deck now. Took several pellet gun shots to get rid of a skunk family and just last week I had a raccoon run out.

I like the idea of the sitting area around the fire pit, but I wonder if it would actually ever get used.

I'll probably add a propane fire table in the fall.

We're increasing ours by pushing it out 4'. Effectively around 130 square feet. It will gives us room for a seating area and dining area. May add a pergola over the sitting area.

All that, plus I get to spend time with my dad building it.

When we did ours a few years ago

I insisted with my FIL that we make the top of the rails extra wide.

I do not regret at all. They are wide enough to sit on, but more importantly, you can place a drink a plate whatever without fear of it falling.

Yep, when I roofed and screened the deck at the old house i made the mid-rail out of 2x8s for this exact reason. Couldn't sit on it obviously, BC screened, but you could sit a plate of food on it if needed.

That is also part of the plan. Trying to think of the little

Details like that to make it better.

We also did built on seating

May 22, 2020, 8:58 AM

It has angled back so you aren’t sitting stiffly straight up

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We have that now but are losing it for a 16' long step.

May 22, 2020, 9:05 AM

Probably adding a built in buffet/table beside the Blackstone for cooking and serving. Trying to decide the railing style too.

Make sure to trim the bushes before posting pigs

May 22, 2020, 9:40 AM

It'll make it look bigger.

I ripped 1/4 of mine off a few weeks ago and stopped

May 22, 2020, 9:52 AM

Figured I might want to hold off on spending that money in case I find myself COVID-poor. Going to raise it 6' to be level with the screened in porch and make a storage area underneath.

And I'm going to be an outlaw and do it without HOA approval.
