Steve Spurrier suffers through loss to Clemson, trolling by CJ Spiller By Des Bieler November 29 at 5:24 PM
It was a painful Saturday for Steve Spurrier. His South Carolina squad had already lost four of its previous seven games, and its top-10 ranking at the start of the season was a very distant memory. The only remaining way left to salvage things was to defeat arch-rival Clemson for an unprecedented sixth straight time, in the process ensuring a winning record.
No such luck. Spurrier’s Gamecocks were soundly defeated by the Tigers, 35-17, dropping their record to 6-6. The game wasn’t particularly close, either, as Clemson led 21-10 at halftime and 28-10 after three quarters. It was just about more than the Ol’ Ball Coach could bear.
Of course, when it comes to sports, one man’s deep pain is often another man’s great pleasure, and former Clemson star CJ Spiller was certainly feeling the latter.
Spiller, for what it’s worth, went 2-2 against Spurrier’s Gamecocks during his Tigers career, from 2006 to 2009. He has plenty of time to watch college football, given that he’s on the Buffalo Bills’ short-term injured reserve list with a broken collarbone, eligible to return in Week 16.
