Was TiGER Mascot prominent b/4 1954 OR the Country Gentleman mascot?

Feb 9, 2015, 9:50 AM

Saying..I know a TiGER logo has been used for century..but the Country Gentleman was also used in a real-live entity, in graphics & literature.

Where is "HARTINs" when I need his historical knowledge..for he was there with Pitchfork Ben?! LOL.

GoTiGERS EvERYWHERE!

I've always been a fan of the Gentleman.

I've heard he patrolled the sidelines in that purple suit and harassed the opposing sidelines something fierce.

I remember both being prominent when I was a child. I think he left about the time they stopped with the Confederate Flag removal.

Should have removed "removal" from previous post. I believe the Gentleman was removed about the same time as the Confederate Flag is what I meant to say. I may be mistaken about the timing, however. I always liked the look of the dude with the plantation coat, ruffled shirt, bow tie, cane, and beaver hat. The new Tiger mascot is more tame looking and probably appeals to the kids better than the old one, too. JMO

Bill, I was there {49-53} and the Country Gentleman was there. A Clemson man needs no introduction.

games were just our mascot versus theirs. We won more games: tiger vs. deacon, edible; tiger vs. chicken, edible and delicious; tiger vs. blue devil, inedible but also incorporeal; tiger vs. wolfpack, challenging but edible, if stringy....

to have a short guy in the Country Gentleman outfit and a tall one for the Tiger.

They had to quit using the live tigers after unknown numbers of Chickens kept disappearing. Something about starving the tigers, so they'd be ready for a full meal.............
