Wake Parking & Tailgating Info (From a Winston-Salemite)

Oct 4, 2018, 7:58 AM

I live in Winston and went to the fair last night which will also share lots with the football parking. I realize this was at night and nice weather but they had filled the coliseum parking (public parking for football) and were overflow parking into the football lots (Gold, Blue, and Orange).

I was told by an attendant that public parking at the coliseum will be $20 on game day. The fair opens at 11am so I think if you get there between 11-12:30 you should be good. It's supposed to be drizzly in the morning so maybe that will keep folks at home for awhile. Traffic will be heavy leaving around 6:30 when the game wraps up.

Just don't arrive thinking, Hahaha, it's a Wake game we can roll right in at 2:00 and we'll be alright. You'll be walking from the hood.

I remember the fair was there in 2003 and we had no problem with parking despite it being a beautiful night.

The game was terrible though.

I thought parking was free at Wake, from what I recall.

Nope. They charge for pretty much all events now.

The city used to own the coliseum but sold it to Wake Forest University and they've started charging ever since.

I don't think parking has been free for a while in the lots

At least it hasn't been that I've found in the last 2 or 3 trips there.

I read that the Fair opens at 9:00 (which is when I was hoping to get there). Am I missing something?

Oops, you're right. On Saturday it opens at 9.
