WBB Notes: Clemson at GT

Feb 20, 2019, 4:04 PM

Clemson (17-9, 8-5) heads to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (16-9, 6-6) on Thursday at McCamish Pavilion. The game is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on ACC Network Extra. Fans can also listen to William Qualkinbush and Kelly Gramlich with the radio call on ClemsonTigers.com.

RANKED WINS: Clemson’s three wins over ranked opponents places them tied for fourth in the conference for most wins over a ranked team this season. The only teams with more ranked wins are No. 2/2 Louisville (five), No. 6/6 Notre Dame (five) and No. 20/20 Miami (five). Along with North Carolina, Clemson is the only unranked ACC team with at least three ranked wins.

THAT’S OUR COACH: In her first season as head coach, Amanda Butler has coached the Tigers to eight ACC wins so far, seven victories over last year’s mark. That is the largest turnaround in wins by a first-year head coach in ACC history. Only two ACC coaches have manufactured better turnarounds: Katie Meier, 2011 Miami (eight wins) and Kay Yow, 1989 NC State (nine wins).

SIXTH PLAYER STUD: Since returning from injury, senior Aliyah Collier has been electric off the bench for Clemson, averaging 11.1 points per outing, good for second among all ACC bench players. The senior also hauls in 7.6 rebounds per game to lead all ACC reserves and rank third among ACC guards in rebounding average.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
The Tigers and the Yellow Jackets have met twice a year in ACC play since the 1982-83 season. Clemson has recorded a series sweep eight times, with the last one coming in 2003-04. The most recent Tiger win at GT was in 2014 (80-79, CU).
Clemson is gunning for its ninth ACC win of the season on Saturday, which would match the most conference wins since 2001-02 (nine).
A win in Atlanta on Thursday would be the Tigers sixth ACC road won of the season. A Clemson team has never before tallied six conference road wins in a season in program history.

But I thought Clemson was too rural and there are no good basketball players in SC and OP left in the middle of the night ?
