Re: Why would someone kill a lynx? Are they good to eat?***

Jan 30, 2014, 3:36 PM

Exactly what I was thinking. I was raised a hunter, but only if you are gonna eat it. Mostly deer, hogs. I really don't believe in killing other predators just for the fun of it. They have a hunting season for black bear in the mountain counties if SC but they aren't even in most of the state. Why not let them spread? If something is a problem then I can see having a season. Ex. Alligators in the low country.

Is that a Lynx or a Bobcat?

Jan 30, 2014, 3:36 PM

It can be difficult to determine but based on the size, it does appear to be a Lynx.

Bobcat--short ear tufts
Lynx-- long ear tufts

Bobcat--longer tail
Lynx--shorter tail

Bobcat-- banded tail
Lynx-- black-tipped tail

Bobcat--distinct spotting on coat
Lynx--distinct spotting in some species, but not all species

Bobcat-- shorter legs
Lynx-- longer legs

Bobcat-- small paws
Lynx-- large padded paws

Bobcat-- smaller and lighter
Lynx-- larger and heavier

Is that a Lynx or a Bobcat? Rhetorical ? - you answered it!

Jan 30, 2014, 10:10 PM

Definitely a Lynx - scared the heck out of me when my dog chased one right in front of me on path in Yosemite. The snow was still down, so it was mostly white. It had a big grin on it, as it passed in front of me, it was headed to some nearby caves, and know it was planning to turn around and have at it with my dog. I stopped her immediately. That Lynx had big antennas on its ears and the biggest paws, I have ever seen in the wild. Honey was good at "show and tell" for me. She also pointed out a dangerous but beautiful Coral snake on another trip to Yosemite!

Feb 1, 2014, 9:00 AM

I can say hunting in the upstate, I've run across a few bobcats and you must remove them or relocate them. They are BAD news for hunting land. Go after fawns and disrupt deer population. They also eat Turkey eggs,so if you hunt a wide variety of animals, they cAn

will ruin your land. They are amazing animals to watch but on someone else's land, not yours. Id have done the same.
