Since Wake vs. UNC was not a conference game, can BC not count Kansas as a game at all.

Who is this guy Lamar that is playing TAMU by himself?

Wasn't a conference game b/c they both needed another opponent who can produce a nice Gate! It's not unheard of and I think we will see more of this as conferences grow!
Traditional rivalries that use to happen every year end up having to stop b/c of scheduling conflicts.
The NCAA only allows so many conference games - but these two needed a game. They didn't want to schedule joe blow school and get like $11.57 at the gate. They wanted to serve two purposes: fill their schedule and make it a game the fans want.
