Tua's injury and the CFP rankings

Nov 18, 2019, 10:26 AM

I know it has been said that the committee factors injuries into results when evaluating teams for the CFP rankings, but how much does the committee project future results (if at all), and do they consider the effects that injuries might have on a team's strength going forward?

Does Bama drop a spot or more this week as a direct result of Tua's injury, and not results on the field?

I think they're praying that auburn beats them so they won't

have to deal with it. The matchup they want is Oklahoma vs Alabama in the new years six. Jalen's revenge match. No one wants LSU vs Bama #2 without Tua. It'll be a blowout probably. Tua had like 400 yards and 4/5 tds in that game and they still lost.

The committee will be hoping oregon or utah wins out so they can save face with the west coast. Either way LSU has a the easy road to the championship in Neworleans.

This Committee would love for the on field results to make their job just a rubber stamp, instead of actually having to do some insightful evaluation of teams.

The CFP Committee is supposed to base their assessments...

Nov 18, 2019, 10:41 AM

on what teams have done up to this point.

On that basis, the committee needs to react to Tua’s injury by not reacting to it. At least not yet.

If Alabama was fifth last week in the committee rankings, it probably should be no worse than fifth again this week. It's not reasonable for the Committee to predict a fall-off when backup Mac Jones steps in. They need to wait and see if it does, in fact, happen.

That likely means waiting until the rankings on 12/3 because there probably won’t be anything gleaned from Bama’s Nov. 23 game against Western Carolina.

One thing is for sure. Alabama is very beatable without Tua.

Yes Alabama is done for the playoffs. They will still get to cherry pick their bowl game though. If and I say IF Tua is able to return next season Bama will be in the top 3 automatically.

Tua will not be back unless his "camp" feels that he needs

Nov 18, 2019, 10:54 AM

to prove he can stay healthy for a full season. And I reallly doubt that will happen as he will likely have more to lose by playing another year.

It's a brave NFL team that takes him in the draft after a broken hip.

Rob Mullens was already asked about the Tua situation

Nov 18, 2019, 10:52 AM

and he said the committee does not project future results.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

None. They don't take anything that hasn't happened yet

Nov 18, 2019, 11:02 AM

into account. Only what has happened on the field so far.

His injury should have zero impact on they rankings.

No injury SHOULD have an impact on rankings. Depth is part of the game. If you lose a star player for a few games and lose one, TFB. Next man up. They give 85 scholarships for a reason.
