Could we not find someone other than Akron? I know we have the ND game, but I think we could have done a little better than Akron.

yes, Char. and Troy more in line with Coots

Charlotte #74, Coots #86, Troy #94, Akron #130 (0-12)
I would prefer like a GA South, Utah St, Tulane, Marshall, C. Michigan, etc.. They arent great but are good midrange opponents that traditionally qualify for bowls.

You really want to play a cut blocking offense like GSU? Why risk the injuries for no real upside?

Hell no. Keep it as easy as possible. I swear I’m the only one who loves the SEC complainers as they all beat each other up and we’re well rested for the playoffs.
BTW what the crap is a Zip anyway?

Go back to April 2015 and let the Athletic Department know that Akron would be this bad 5 years later.

with the contract as to escape clauses. There is no way a competent AD would get locked down with a game like Akron and not have a way out.

Or, you don't stress out about it because it simply doesn't matter. IF, and that's a big IF, a spot in the playoff came down to strength of schedule the committee isn't going to say "Well if they had played Central Michigan instead of Akron they'd be in, but they didn't so they're out."
I also do not follow Akron football very much, but I doubt they have another 0-12 year this year (which is what the metrics actually will follow, not last year's results).
As for getting out of it, yeah, let's just throw away money so that we can play a "better" G5 team. Makes zero sense.

and trying to schedule a replacement this late in the game would be difficult as well. We might ditch Akron only to get Liberty or something like that.

That's true, and a very good point. I just don't understand how people don't realize that we are locking teams down to play several years in advance.
I can't wait for 2035 when Oklahoma sucks and get trashed for playing them.

in 2019?
They went to a bowl game the year we put them on the schedule. They went to a bowl game three years ago. Then they had a bad season, then an awful season.
It doesn’t matter. Any team we schedule that isn’t Power 5 will be cannon fodder.

In my opinion, there isn't a major college team in the country who plays more than 10 competitive regular season games per year.
It doesn't matter to me one bit what the name on the jersey is for the two down games that we play.
It's an extra recovery week for our starters most of the time, and is a great way to pile up the snap count for younger guys and backups.
These games would have gone away long ago if college coaches weren't adamant about keeping these types of games around.

1. I find their Name hilarious - The Akron Zips 2. They went 0-14 last year living up to their moniker. 3. I find it a bad look for CU to schedule a game with a team that went 0-14 last year when all we heard from every region of the country was the whining about our schedule. This gives the clowns added fuel for their arguments.

1. Point stands, but they were 0-12. If you're gonna #### on 'em, at least let it be factual ########.
2. It's crazy that we cannot predict the future. I mean in April 2015 when we scheduled this game we should've known that they would be 0-12 the season before we played them. It's really getting ridiculous.

we agreed to pay them 1.1 million to come play at Death Valley. We'd probably have to find them another place to play and make up any financial difference. Plus, we'd then have to find a team to play on short notice that wants to come to Clemson (bc we cannot lose that home game for revenues sake)for a one year deal. Also, you cant bank on a team being good when you schedule them...you just never know.

Looked and saw App State, Florida Atlantic. La Tech and Troy on near future schedules for that mid major opponent. At least little better.

Everybody plays a group of 5 game every year. And how good those teams are fluctuates rapidly. Like how do we know La Tech don’t fall off a cliff before we play them in a few years?

No one could have known that the ACC would be bad enough that ESPN would make it their mission in life to downgrade them when this schedule was made. We deserve a tasty cupcake just as much as anyone else.
