Trip to VA last week

Went up to the northern neck of Virginia last week for a final visit to my wife's grandparent's river house. They are selling it after 50 plus years to move closer to the family. Lots of emotions with the move and visit, but it was good. Many good memories, we got married in their backyard overlooking the Potomac. There's so much history around them, so we made a few visits while we were there.

Pier by their place.


House Stonewall Jackson died in.


House where James Madison was born.


House where Lightfoot Lee, Richard Henry Lee and Robert E Lee were born.


Sunken Road Battlefield


George Washington's Birthplace


James Monroe's Birthplace

I was reacting to what a nice place they appear to have and my own limited exposure to "the rivah" when I lived in RVA. So nice.

We're not perfect, but VA is a dang nice place to live.

They wanted to keep it in the family, but we don't have the disposable income and my MIL and wife's uncle have no monies. They've lived there exclusively for the last 20 years or so. They aren't in great health and the closest family is in Raleigh now, so they are selling to downsize/move into a senior community.

If we lived closer and had the money, I'd love to have the place.
