Transfers thinking next 5 years, not next 45

Jul 29, 2019, 10:46 AM

Kirk Herbstreit sat down with Clay Travis for a podcast last week and this was a comment that really stood out. I highlight recommend checking out the interview, some very glowing remarks about Clemson as well. Kirk is very anti-transfer portal in how it's being used so liberally, pointing out that these guys' next 5 years are always the focus, when they can certainly be putting themselves in a worse position for their next 45. It's always a case-by-case basis, of course, but I can't help but to think about KB and now Feaster.

I do not think that KB has an NFL future. Feaster, maybe, but judging by how his college career has turned out, he's not going to be one of the first guys that NLF execs are thinking about. Here's the point I'm trying to make: The Clemson football program puts guys in a position where if they pay their dues, buy into the program, and be "all-in" for Clemson, they essentially have the keys to Clemson, *especially* if they were a recognizable player. The career opportunities are limitless for a lot of those guys.

But for those guys that leave, we will wish you good luck, health, and success so long as the success doesn't come against Clemson. But that's pretty much end of the road, likely no decades of the city of Clemson bending over backwards to support your future endeavors.
