Tough day yesserdy. Had to put the boy down.

Zack was 15 yo but over the last few years got riddled with cancer, glaucoma and couldn't hear well. He never seemed to be in pain. He now has a great view of Lake Hartwell.
Ms Wilbur took it the worst, mainly because I'm in Chicago and she had to handle it alone.
He was such a good boy.

On a similar note, I saw my neighbor out on his porch balling his eyes out 2 days ago. This guy is 6ft 3 maybe and just a gruff dude. He was really into his dog. I went and asked him what was up. He said his dog out of nowhere got sick and lost the use of his legs. Vet said he needed to be put down. He put his dog "Sammy" down. He was crushed.

It could have been Vertigo.

My old dog this happened to 6 months ago. Lost the use of her back legs, and I was sure I was gonna have to put her down. Took her to the vet and she said it was vertigo for dogs. Gave me some steroids for her and said wait it out. Within a week she was back to normal.

last month I had a 14 yr old die of natural causes (stray that I had for 12). Another that I have had for over 10 years is slowing down by the day; his days are numbered for sure. Poor guy labors with every movement (I think he has arthritis in every joint), but dutifully goes about doing his business properly and never complains.
All you can do is remember when the demise happens is that you provided them an awesome life, and they appreciated you for that.

Sorry you had to put Zack down. It’s amazing how attached we get to our pets and how attached that become to us. My hound dog gets really sad if I am gone over night.
I hope and pray you find a new companion not to replace Zack but to build on Zacks legecy.
Zack Rest In Peace.
