Tomato pie....

Jan 18, 2019, 1:40 PM

for dessert? Went to Parcel 32 on King last night for Restaurant Week. Good grub, and was actually a little surprised that everything was above average with a few really good plates thrown in. RW prix fixe menus are pretty hit-miss. We got to dessert, and one of the 3 choices was tomato pie. That seems...odd. Waiter was like "dude...get it, it's like apple pie." So 19She ordered it. And gatdam if them green tomaters didn't do a fantastic apple impression. Just sweet enough to be dessert, but not disgustingly sweet. Just a bizarre dish that somehow worked magically. Ran into a couple on the way out who were walking in, specifically to get the tomato pie. So apparently, it's a known commodity.

Less hairy. Roughly same acidity. Enjoy both.

I saw 19she's report on it, but I was confused until now.

I make 'mater pies all the time, but it's more a savory side dish than a sweet dessert dish.

Yeah, that's why I was totally confused, too. 19She is a

yankee, or Arizonan, or something not Southern, so she isn't familiar with the concept of tomato pie (which she really should have run across in 6 years here, but alas...hasn't seen one). It's supposed to be savory, and cheesy, and mayonnaisey. This was none of those.

My sis makes a mean one.***
