You mean Robert Smith formally of ESPN. No way this flies.

Believe me this is a curse. Forget it. We have major unanswered problems. Frank Howard said that "I rather start at the back of the room and move to the front, than start at the front and move to the back." Let's agree to start at the back of the room, and hopefully surprise people. Lower expectations.

Does ESPN like us, hate us, or just want to be friends?

Please pick one and stay with it...

May 20, 2013, 4:11 PM [ in reply to Now i'm just confused ]

I expect there to be a full-on ESPN love-fest by the middle of August. Last year we got a break from it because of the FSU loss. I really would just assume ESPN hate us. We play better when they're either hating or ignoring us.

My point exactly. Don't fall for this cr#p. It is reverse psychology.

Trying to psyche us out. They don't believe this sh##t for a moment. let's talk everyone else up and ouselves down. That's when we do our best. For example, I hope UGA is favored over us by 21. Best thing that could happen to us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Remember Robert Smith played at Ohio State….

May 20, 2013, 11:38 PM [ in reply to Now i'm just confused ]

he is a Big 10 guy at heart. Robert Smith only says the occasional SEC propaganda stuff to satisfy ESPN. Robert Smith has actually been complimentary of Clemson. Every college football pundit on ESPN aren't all pro SEC. If you watched the Sugar Bowl, you could see both Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit were annoyed at having to talk about Florida, instead of talking about how good Louisville was doing.

Not sure about CLEMSON - and definitely not sure about Louisville (???), but Stanford is a legitimate threat to play in the NC game. I do not see anyone beating them. NOBODY.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They lost a good bit of talent. Then again they replaced

May 20, 2013, 7:45 PM

one of the best QB prospects of the last decade and one the best coaches in all of football without missing a beat, so it's definitely possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Clemson's biggest challenge is...

May 20, 2013, 5:45 PM

(2013) not whether they have the team to win it all.
But, can they consistently get "UP" for everybody they
play.In the ACC, I don't care who you are..1 loss, and
your NC hopes are done.

Just saying...

Re: Football Update: ESPN's Robert Smith tweets about Clemson

May 20, 2013, 5:57 PM

we deff have a legitimate chance, I can see us being 1 of the top 3 non SEC teams picked to win it. 3 big time games...GA, FSU at home and at SC. We take care of the home games and don't slip up in any other ACC game, cause we will be heavily favored in pretty much the other 9 games. Theres really no reason we shouldn't be 11-0 going against SC. Tho that would make it that much sicker for that to be our only loss if that scenario happened. If we lose to them again i'd rather have another loss on the schedule lol just sayin.

May 20, 2013, 9:54 PM

I hope the players and coaches aren't drinking the same
cool aid you are. Totally unrealistic---not impossible---but highly unlikely. Let's face it, our chances of winning the UGA game are 50/50 at best, very possibly less. Lose that one at home and the whole house of cards come tumbling down. And UGA will likely come in ranked in the top five in the nation. And people are talking about us going 11 and 0---at this point??? Are you serious?

ACC Champs , wins over UGA , Fsu and Sackerlina will be our ticket...then we would need to beat LSU/Alabama for the title.
Im of the opinion tjat any loss to any team eliminates Clemson along the way

Re: 12-0

May 20, 2013, 7:08 PM

I think the only way we get in with 1 loss is if the loss it to, say, NC State...and then we proceed to wipe the floor with everyone else we play including SCAR, FSU and our opponent in the ACCCG. The early season loss would just be looked at as kind of a hiccup.

Losing to one of the good teams we play - especially in the middle of or late in the season - will take us out of the running I would think.

As backwards as it sounds, I would rather drop a game to a lowly opponent that the voters would see us as coming out flat...than to come out hyped up for the big games and lose one.

Re: 12-0

May 20, 2013, 10:04 PM

Good post. CU is a good, but not yet an elite team. We are thin at RB, QB, and our OL is still a queation mark---not to mention a secondary that will have to depend on freshmen to be respectable---a tall order. Hope springs eternal, and I'm as susceptible to that as anyone else. Realism suggests otherwise.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: 12-0

May 20, 2013, 11:46 PM

When you lose your starting QB, your national title hopes tend to shrink - that's a given with any football team in America. All teams are "thin" by that standard more or less.

Don't really see how we're thin at RB. Got plenty of guys young and old who can contribute. This just hinges on Howard's ability to stay healthy and secure the ball. Dye and Brooks are adequate depth for this offense.

OL is a question mark for every team at this point in the offseason. We'll be fine there.

I'm concerned about our defense more than the items you mentioned.

And one or more losses are, unfortunately, very likely. Don't buy your tickets to the NC game just yet.

Re: 12-0

May 21, 2013, 12:13 AM

Clemson has gotten to where we can at least make a bid for a NC game. Coots, not so much so, they still need to be let in on an sec title first, and that's not likely with the gators coming back kind of strong. And then there is LSU and Bama!!!

May 21, 2013, 1:27 AM

The 3 mentioned, including us, have to win 2-3 games along with every other game, while the SEC must win almost every game, according to ESPiN.

What's the easiest road?

Uhm

We'll just have to wait and see what the year says, huh?

Oh wait the we need to leave the ACC folks will not like this post.

You know what?
