If you are the 3rd fastest player on your team, hell, at your team's position, then you might want to refrain from publicly predicting that you will run the fastest 40 at the combine this year or all-time.
Doing that could damage opinions of two traits you are known for, like being humble and mature. Doesn't reflect well on intelligence either.

Hate to say it but when has Sammy really ever been wise with words? Tajh? Definitely is but Sammy just doesn't get that part most times.

As a competitor, you should always expect the best from yourself and set those kind of goals... NO ONE has ever achieved greatness without having that expectation that they could actually be great.
Besides, don't take the report of what Sammy said literally because MOST reports and interviews include a level of misplaced context that skews our view as readers and viewers, especially when sound bytes of the interview are only given. Sammy is a very humble individual, but he is a competitor and I believe that the full context of his comments were not relayed, to include tone and attitude...
I work in the media, and I have watched the practice of creating interest spiral so far out of hand that reporters themselves sometimes don't realize they do a disservice to the profession....

Couldn't agree more. TU! Hey, it's always going to be what will sell papers, air time,.....MAKE $$$$. You don't get a job to not make $. So, you make your, product/service as enticing as possible. Also, why would he say I think I'll run a tie for 7th fastest time? That thought doesn't enter a winners mind.

he would break the record.
what he said was "I'm wanting to run something crazy and break the combine record and run the fastest time out there"
Saying he "wants to" is not even close to predicting he would brak the record.
