A 1-loss team playing a top 5 team is bigger than an undefeated team playing #9? I agree with the post on the Navy game. That was the highlight of the century.

Yes. They lost to Navy when they were ranked 2nd in the nation. It was hilarious then and hilarious now. Deptula just runs a coot call in show.

No - LSU game was big, but Fla game is bigger as they lead the division. Certainly one of their biggest games ever. Deptula definitely exagerates, but he is more correct than most give him credit for.

With a usc win this wknd, they are firmly back in the national championship mix, with a loss then it is over. #7 in bcs is a great place to be as bama and lsu still have to play. Notre dame plays uscw, kstate vs wv and oklahoma. Uscw vs oregon.
So yes a win vs florida and usc controls their destiny.
*cue the usuc wont win at the real death valley talk....

Game? It doesn't. Even if they chickens win this weekend (they won't) a lot of other chips have to fall just right including them beating Alabama in the SECCG. Yeah right. And Southern Cal isn't USCw it's THE USC. (Pssst.......your coot is showing )

its not. every game late in the 84 season was huge until we lost. this weekend may be the biggest game since then. its bigger than last week because its divisional and the winner should make it to atlanta. losing last week sucked but it was the one we could afford to lose. it didnt make any goals unattainable unless going undefeated was a goal. losing to uf would make several goals unattainable. if we did win out then the seccg would be biggest game ever with a conference championship and possible mnc invite on the line. if we win this week every game after that will be huge until we lose.
all that being said, i hope our team isnt looking ahead like that. we still have 4 games we could easily lose if we dont play well.

Biggest in History? Maybe...

Third Top 10 game in three weeks and second ESPN Gameday in three weeks. They are all running together anymore.
Right now it's 1-1 so this is the rubber match.
A win over Florida in the Swamp, arguably one of the Top 5 hardest venues to get a road win, puts USC in control of thier destiny in the SEC and a rematch with LSU or a game with Alabama. Either one is winnable...if you think otherwise you're just kidding yourself. It's not unfathomable that a 12-1 SEC Champion goes to the BCSCG.
A sh*tload of football to be played between now and then though. Arkansas is actually finding a little of their mojo back and UT is going to put it together against someone.

Sad, sad, sad

Okay, let's just assume for a minute that this is the "most important game in USuC history." Well, if that's true isn't that just sad? We're saying that in over 100 years of football "history" the Gamecocks biggest game is a regular week 7 matchup with Florida. It truly shows the depth to which this program has been relegated for the past 100+ years.

Just a regular week 7 matchup with Florida?
This game all but declares the East winner and a shot to go to the SEC Championship which, with a win would most likely put whomever in the MNC.
It would also be the 3rd straight win over Florida, two of which being in the Swamp. It is anything but a regular week 7 matchup.
I see what you are saying, and I agree it is sad that it this is the most important game in the history of the program, but every program started somewhere. Just because Clemson was good before you and I were born does not discount the fact that Carolina is playing pretty darn good football nowadays.

they are by no means a nc caliber football team. their road wins are kentucky and vandy, both times struggling. they have lost their only hard road game. yes, they manhandled uga at home, going up 21-0 within the first 10-15 minutes of game time, winning 14-7 the rest of the way, knowing uga had to throw the ball. and how good is uga? usuc ia a pretty good team, but i don't think they are a top-5 team.

Who knows if they are top 5 or not. Every team aside from Alabama and Florida really has shown they can be beat, or have not played anyone to really give much credibility.
After the next 2 weeks things will really start to shake out and show who the true NC contenders are. If Notre Dame beats OU, or if Kansas State beats another ranked team (cant discount the OU win, especially at OU where they are like 49-1 against ranked teams, pretty impressive) then we will start to see who is for real.
Keep in mind, Oregon has not played a decent football team yet. Neither has Oregon St.
