To all those who love the ND deal

Sep 13, 2012, 12:21 PM

ND is on national tv and radio every week. they schedule who they want. they have media coverage and adoration beyond their performance capabilities. Why have they been so blasted mediocre the past 15 or so years?

Just seems they could and would be much better. MUch more ND like than they have been. Thoughts?

great for us and the ACC assuming we can compete over the years without our football backbones.

ND lowered their entrance requirements and allowed in some football players who otherwise would not have been able to attend ND during the Lou Holtz years. Following his departure the requirements were changed again, and some of the talent which was there when Holtz was coaching isn't eligible today.

But Weis definitely took them a few steps back during his tenure. It is nice to know there are other schools out there that hire the hatfields of the world.

The issue that has been most oftened mentioned is high admission standards. There is definitely some validity to that, but the poor choice of coaches has been just as much of a factor.

The first and foremost reason for ND's failure in football.

If they don't win the NC every year, you are fired. They fired Lou for coming in second one year.

No coach wants to be fired for losing one game.

They think the grass is always greener...

Notre Dame did not fire Lou....

Sep 13, 2012, 1:29 PM

Lou Holtz left Notre Dame after the 1996 season and walked away from a lifetime contract for undisclosed reasons.

At the time, one of the leading rumors for him leaving was the University forced him out because they did not want him to have more wins than Knute Rockne; a notion that Notre Dame denies.

I think Lou probably agreed to retired in order to avoid being fired but the likely cause was his kniowledge of NCAA rules violations that he and his staff failed to monitor and report.

Following an investigation in 1999, the NCAA placed Notre Dame on two years probation for extra benefits provided to football players between 1993 and 1999.
