Time to Secede Again?

Nov 14, 2012, 11:27 AM

How is College Football impacted if we say bye to Socialism/Fascism again? Maybe the ACC will finally divide into North and South Divisions and we will have an international playoff.

"America, love it or leave it." Now it's their own dilemma. This secessionist emotionally charged rhetoric is exactly why the GOP has managed to lose four of the last six presidential elections, and five of the last six popular votes. America is changing; love it or get left behind.

I think the NCAA became international a while back

Nov 14, 2012, 12:15 PM

not as much in football, but basketball is starting to trend that way, soccer has long been that way, and many minor sports like tennis and golf have long been there, too.

And I guarantee extending the NCAA field to teams outside of the country is not off-limits if the NCAA thinks they can get more money out of it.

I really have no opinion on either issue - secession or international athletes in the NCAA, just wanted to add two more cents.

communism-the way it is practiced, is very similar to fascism-in that both require allegiance to the regime, overly strong central government, and an eroding of individual liberties

Re: You do understand that Socialism and Fascism are

they are not opposite in the way they are practiced---no importance placed on civil liberties, all powerful central gov't and eradication of rivals

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Both are authoritarian....but the concepts

Nov 14, 2012, 12:25 PM

are not the same.
Actually, both arent supposed to be authoritarian.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Calling our system communist or fascist is ignorant...

Nov 14, 2012, 12:47 PM

but, theoretically Fascism and Communism do have a bunch in common. I would not say they are polar opposites.

One notable difference though is that Communism would abolish private property all together, whereas Fascism would technically promote it, but the central government would have an overwhelmingly dominate hand in all economic decisions.

Either way, the notion that Obama being elected is a step towards either is extremely ignorant and stupid.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree. Our system has been corporatist for about 100 years

Nov 14, 2012, 1:09 PM

now. It's a kindler, gentler form of tyranny that isn't as up front as fascism. The government doesn't own all the property like in Socialism, and the government doesn't control every economic decision like in fascism, but instead the government lays permanent claim to all property, to be exercised at any moment (see the Kelo decision) and the government weaves a tangled web of "regulations" that pretty much control every activity or action you might think of doing.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The government doesn't own the property in Socialism.

Nov 14, 2012, 5:14 PM

We have been a mixed economy for the vast majority of our history. Mixed economy means part capitalism, part socialism. One or the other by themselves would be terrible and unsustainable.

Too many people get Communism and Socialism confused. Communism is an extreme version of socialism. Both major American parties agree with Socialism and have for over 100 years. People just confuse the lexicon.

And I have no idea where you are getting that we are a corporatism. That is more of a socio-political arrangement than an economic one. Corporatism involves different organized or institutionalized social bodies which have their own specific responsibility in a country. The USA has never been one of those.

Do you mean we are a corporatocracy? Cuz that is different. That has more to do with how a nation is run by corporations, which arguably fits certain eras of American history... but not now. Too much government regulations and programs for that to apply currently.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're right, I use Socialism and Communism interchangeably

Nov 15, 2012, 9:12 AM

but technically you're right, so let me clarify:

Communism : govt owns all property
Socialism : govt controls all property and income
Fascism : govt controls all property and exchanges

So, basically, they are all the same thing. Just different structures for totalitarian rule over the individual.

Capitalism in its pure sense, where there is no government (no public ownership, no rulers) is the only just way to run a country, and is more sustainable than any of the other systems that have ever been tried in history. It is the degree to which Capitalism is followed that allows societies to prosper, until the totalitarian strain grows (in whatever form it takes) and starts to destroy the country from within.

This has been true for the entire history of earth. The only thing that has never been fully implemented is a ruler-less society, which we came close to in the 1700's, but quickly reverted back into a controlled society. Because of this, we too will fall, and it probably won't be long now.

Nov 14, 2012, 12:34 PM

Socialism is an economic system where the state owns all property.

Fascism is an economic system where the state controls all property.

There is no difference aside from the terms used. Just go back and read about the politics of Germany in the 1920's. Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Corporatism, they are all fundamentally the same thing: slavery.
