Tiger radio horrible reception...

Jun 3, 2012, 2:51 PM

....in Columbia. It's ridiculous we do not have a clear radio affiliate in the largest market in the state.

93.1 has bad reception? Are they carrying the game?

Jun 3, 2012, 2:54 PM

I had to listen to last evening's game on a coot station. It was like having a terminally long enema....

Just a note on radio markets..

Greenville-Spat is 46 in the nation. Col is 89. Charleston is around 83.

Reception may be bad, but Columbia is not the largest

market.

See 2010 census information link.

The Greenville, Pickens, Spartanburg, Anderson, Laurens market (all the counties touching Greenville County) is over 1.1 million people.

Richland County, and the six counties that touch Richland, has around 750K.

Greenville County is the most populated county in the state, and has been every modern census since 1900.

Greenville County pop around 460K
Richland County pop around 390K
Spartanburg County pop 290K
Lexington County pop 260K

Anderson and Pickens County, and to a lesser extend Laurens County, add another 250K.

All the counties surrounding Richland, minus Lexington, are pretty low populations. Newberry 35K or so, Fairfield 25K etc..

Actually Columbia is the largest MSA in the state, by far.....

I've seen that data, but it is meaningless because of how it

is calculated.

Drive 20 miles outside of Columbia in any direction, and you are in the country

The upstate is all census defined urban (500 people per square mile) within 50 miles from the center of Greenville County.

Columbia is urban defined less than 25 miles from downtown, and the density per square mile in downtown Columbia is less than downtown Greenville. The only reason Greenville is not the largest city is there desire to not incorporate more area. If you took the average county density in Greenville County and with the City incorporating the same square mileage of area as Columbia, Greenville would be the largest city in the state, by far.

Also, from your own link, look at the "CSA" numbers

Jun 3, 2012, 4:42 PM [ in reply to Re: Reception may be bad, but Columbia is not the largest ]

for the Columbia and seven county area, 805K

The CSA numbers for Greenville-Spartanburg, 1.1M

Also, since Anderson touches Greenville County, their 188K should be added there as well.

MSA's are based on factors that DO NOT marry directly with contiguous population density. It is based on "sharing" of networks. Spartanburg has their own major networks, so does Greenville. Columbia is the only network anywhere close to the midlands, because it is all rural 25 miles outside of town.

Not from forest acres. Doesn't matter now, back in front of a tv

The upstate is the largest market by a longshot.***
