Tiger Teachers. One more question

Feb 17, 2016, 10:22 AM

Do any of yall have a browser lock that you use for your students to take tests on their one to one devices? Or does your district have a program in place?

The only thing that is keeping me from being a true 100% paperless classroom is the tests. Without a browser lock it will be too easy for my students to cheat during a test. Is there individual programs that I could download for this or will I need to convince the district to get one?

TIA

Yes. We use Lockdown Browser. Our district has placed it on the image so that all of our devices have it. We also use LanSchool so that each teacher can monitor each student in their classroom as well as limit what applications and sites they can visit.

So is this something the district will need to use (purchase?) or can I download it on to the laptops I have?

That would be a good question for your IT dept. Not sure what your rights are as a teacher on those devices. Our teachers do not have the rights to install new apps or software. Our district purchases licenses for software and approves all installs in order to ensure that FERPA is not violated by the use of the information obtained by the apps and/or software.

Our district uses a program called Hapara

It doesn't lock the students out but you see all the tabs the student's have open. I'm pretty sure it isn't a download and our district pays a pretty penny to use it. HTH
