Thomas Green Clemson, street-fighting man...

Jul 23, 2020, 8:53 AM

I recently ran across a biography of our Patron Saint. It was written by professor Holmes and professor Sherrill of The Clemson Agricultural College in 1937. It was dedicated to All Clemson Men.
It was in the fall of 1826 that young Clemson, then 18 went to Paris to study at The Sorbonne Royal College. He studied at The Royal School of Mines, eventually receiving a certificate as Assayer and Mining Engineer.
He apparently retained his family Revolution genes, as while in Paris Charles X, a pure tyrant, was dethroned and was succeeded by Louis Phillipe. Clemson was noted by friends for his "manning at the barricades" during the uprising which let to the overthrow.
A new light to shed upon the life and times of Thomas G. Clemson...

You should kindly give him credit for rising above that handicap!

Forever grateful for his donation to our state so we would have our great institution. And for Tillman’s (among others) work to convince SC to accept the gift and establish our beloved school.
