$2.00 for a bottle of water is stil

Aug 23, 2018, 3:29 PM [ in reply to Wow, some huuge price drops! ]

Too high, you can buy a 48 count shrink wrap case of bottled water at Sam’s I for $2.68.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That price is actually pretty reasonable

Aug 23, 2018, 3:50 PM

Although you can get water much cheaper at the grocery store for yourself, there are a lot a costs they have to recoup that are not necessarily apparent to the consumer such as:

1. Delivery to the stadium
2. Equipment to cool the water
3. Power to cool the water
4. Cost of concessions stand to sell the water
5. Cost of employees to inventory, setup and sell the water
6. Liability insurance in running a F&B operation

etc...

Margins were probably pretty decent under the old prices but Clemson/Aramark are taking a pretty good risk lowering the prices that much. There is no guarantee that they will be able to meet the volume at the lower prices to make up the difference.

Good news, none the less, for the gameday fans!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are assuming the water will be cold...novel concept***

first thing they could do is stop selling Dasani water. It is expensive and rates at or near the bottom of bottled water rankings. There are so many brands that taste much better.

Contract with a local grocery store to supply cheaper and better tasting water and they could deliver for free if they want the contract.

The majority of the concession stands are run by local groups trying to raise money. This would be the same as contracting with soda companies. They get a % of what is sold. They are run by volunteers so no cost for employees.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

also...

Aug 23, 2018, 5:22 PM

Groups must provide basic General Liability Insurance of no less than 1,000,000 of coverage; Aramark also provides insurance to each group free of charge, the election for Aramark insurance must be selected in the contract.

I actually like Desani it is one of few bottle waters that still have needed minerals in it. Guess it is to each persons taste

Dasani is a Coca Cola product so it would be included in the soft drink contract.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

somehow CostCo has figured out a way to sell the same bottle

Aug 24, 2018, 1:59 PM [ in reply to That price is actually pretty reasonable ]

for a quarter and turn a profit...Something tells me Clemson is doing alright at $2

If you want it free you'll need to stand in the bathroom concession line just like the rest of us .

Love this and smart move. I imagine they will sell enough bottled water next Saturday in the mid-day heat to make up some of the lost revenue.

I had heard that this was going to happen and I’m glad that the decision was made right away.. a very good move by the athletic dept. Now if we could shorten those lines to the ‘facilities’!

Re: TNET: Clemson announces fan-friendly concession prices in Memorial Stadium

Aug 23, 2018, 2:58 PM

I'm sure there are many who are like me and don't buy things when the prices are ridiculously high. But if they're fairly normally priced, I will. More business. Very simple. Good for the university for this. I think a lot of stadiums are going this route now. Now if places like Carowinds would, I could quit smuggling trail mix and beef jerky in!

$4 for one of those hot dogs was highway robbery

They know your kid is going to make you pay whatever price Aramark asks, so they didn't drop that one!

Re: What a joke

Aug 23, 2018, 5:15 PM

Aramark does not have anything to do with dippin' dots. Dippin' dots provides their own set up and set their own prices.

And you are correct, parents will pay the price.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The day I pay whatever the price for dippin dots, you know

Aug 23, 2018, 10:45 PM

I have totally lost it! Dippin dots are about the poorest excuse for ice cream I have ever seen, I tried a free sample once, that was enough for me!!

A basic hot dog, nothing gourmet about it, for $4?

Drink your bottled water then pee in the bottle. Your aim has got to be good though.

Arthur Blank

Aug 23, 2018, 3:28 PM

Set the wheels in motion with concessions at the new Mercedes Stadium. As a retailer, first, he had a solid grasp on how to price the market and lots of other locations have followed suit. He gets a lot of credit, in my opinion. It's actually okay to learn and follow the actions of others...don't always have to be first! ;)

Re: Arthur Blank

Aug 23, 2018, 4:14 PM

Mercedes is much cheapers. $2 soda with UNLIMITED self service refills. Popcorn $2.

It's a step in the right direction though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Despite the price drops...

Aug 23, 2018, 3:30 PM

Watch concessions make more money this year. Mark it down!

Good for all parties coming together to make this happen.

Aug 23, 2018, 8:03 PM

More exciting "feature" and less cost at concessions! Shux man; the movies can forget it now!

Seriously, anytime you have reasonable prices the average family can afford, it can't hurt! Awesome!
