This is garbage. Extra time to prepare for one particular opponent is not the same as time used to get a new season underway.

Re: FB Update: Clemson gets less practice time than Alabama

Jan 4, 2016, 9:55 AM

Just another example of the problems with the NCAA. I don't really think this will determine the outcome of the game but the people who are in charge of the NCAA are absolutely incompetent and this is just another example.

Just make it even when it comes to the Championship game. How is this so hard?? Playing the Playoff game at 4:00 on NYE was just a dumb move. How many Clemson and Oklahoma fans actually had to request time off to watch the beginning of the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Clemson gets less practice time than Alabama

Jan 4, 2016, 9:55 AM

Alabama should be limited to the same practice schedule that the opponent has, irregardless of who the opponent is for the National Championship. There should be no advantage for one team over another when playing this game. Totally unfair rule that gives one team more time to prepare than the other. GO TIGERS!!!

Bama is used to being in the championship game and has this time built into it's schedule so it won't happen to them. He could be correct...much as I hate to admit it.

I stated that Bama simply lets football rule academics.

My thoughts exactly. Coach MacClain will take care of the "off the record" practices.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wont matter

Jan 4, 2016, 10:14 AM

We'll use the extra time today and tomorrow like a mini camp. Come Wednesday we'll be in regular prep mode (Wed = Mon). Our system is proven, and there is no need to overwork our players now.

Have you noticed during warm ups we always seem to leave the field before our opponents? We have a system that works for us. At the OB I thought it showed superiority to get our business done and head on in for a pre-game talk.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WL

Exactly

Jan 4, 2016, 10:42 AM

We're basically on a normal season practice schedule, except that today and tomorrow we can practice for much longer if we wanted. This won't make any difference whatsoever. I doubt Bama will be practicing any more than us on Wed-Sun.

Jan 4, 2016, 12:52 PM [ in reply to Bama will over-prepare and be thinking too much.*** ]

Yeah, that's how Bama has gotten to be the program that they are, by over preparing and over thinking. The rule is wrong and unfair, and the SEC has always found a away to cheat the system as a conference, and they always get away with it....

Jan 4, 2016, 11:07 AM

Practices, weightlifting and any film sessions or meetings required by coaches count toward the 20-hour limit. The game also counts as three hours, no matter how long it lasts.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see this being a real issue...

Jan 4, 2016, 11:08 AM

It's certainly much, much better than having to come off of short rest on a Thursday night when the other team didn't. Granted, it's the Championship Game, not just some midseason game but these guys have been getting ready for this moment for a long time...all season...all year...most of their lives, truth be told.

The coaches were never going to work them physically more than four hours a day and the guys that can absorb film, etc for the 5th, 6th, 7th hours are going to be doing it without the coaches anyway.

The fifth hour of practice is not going to make the linemen any more dominant or have the receivers catch the ball any better or the running backs hold the ball any more securely. The habits are all there and the whole playbook is available. There's plenty of time to get the gameplan in and get it polished.

I like our chances and I don't this doesn't worry me a bit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson should ask the NCAA for an exemption

Jan 4, 2016, 11:09 AM

Fair is fair.

You will never know if you don't ASK!

to eliminate advantages. They are good for nothing.

Do teams really adhear to 20 hours?

Jan 4, 2016, 11:58 AM

I swam at a small undergraduate school (JMU) before attending Clemson for grad school. We easily exceeded the maximum of 20 hours weekly (not by much, but exceeded)

On a standard week, with the competition being counted at 3 hours that leaves 17 hours for weight training practice and team meetings for the rest of the week. With one day off that is 3.4 hours a day.

Since it is a partial week, perhaps they cram 4 hours a day which is the daily max? Should be plenty especially since conditioning won't be necessary.

(Sorry for the Notre Dame site but this link is pretty concise
http://www3.nd.edu/~ncaacomp/countable_hours.shtml)

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think this actually makes things fair...

Jan 4, 2016, 12:04 PM

Bammer needs more time to prepare for this game than the Tigers. ??

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

Re: FB Update: Clemson gets less practice time than Alabama

Jan 4, 2016, 12:31 PM

It is still more time than we got for the Louisville game that everyone likes to point to as a bad performance on our part. It may not be fair, but it should not make much difference with the amount of time between games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So, if the game runs long (after midnight)

Jan 4, 2016, 12:37 PM

Will Clemson be forced to leave the game early to board their flight to get back in time for classes on Tuesday? ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Then first 3 days of semester needs to be officially labeled

Jan 4, 2016, 1:13 PM

something else like "optional" for the entire university!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

mountain out of a molehill

Jan 4, 2016, 1:47 PM

it doesn't mean that players can't watch film on their own. We leave on Friday and there will be unlimited focus. If players don't know how to prepare at this point in the season then the coaches have been spoonfeeding them all year. You can only physically prepare so much and we will still get all we need. If we were limited today and tomorrow I would be more concerned. But the full game plan will be delivered and in by the time classes start.

Oregon didn't lose to Ohio State because Ohio State put in 10 more hours on the practice field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is deliberate by Bama

Jan 4, 2016, 3:05 PM

I'm in law school at Bama and we start class tomorrow (tuesday the 5th). Yet they delay the undergrads from starting until after the championship game is over for this very reason. Both so the players don't have any restrictions on practice and so the students can all travel to the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Clemson gets less practice time than Alabama

Jan 4, 2016, 3:29 PM

Im sure Alabama will have the reffs on there sides as well. I expect penalties that are complete bs in this game. In favor of bama. But it all good Clemson will overcome the disadvantages and emerge victorious!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Could violate the 20-hour rule then

Jan 4, 2016, 3:31 PM

Self report a secondary violation. Just a slap on the wrist and and a don't do that anymore
