I like the young mans courage to speak his mind about issues people freak out about and he is right that the dual threat label is a way to do lazy scouting.

Wanna label him? Here's one. Covers QB. As in D Coordinator covers his head when he comes in the game.

I agree with you. He should leave the labels to the idiots to decipher, just play football, score and win. If he believe it's racist, prove them wrong. Idle talk......it can be by costly, just saying.

I agree but I think the better question is when you think black QB dont you think dual threat? And wouldn't you be disappointed if he weren't?

I'm very happy Clemson has a dual threat qb, but even happier that they win consistently. To me it makes no difference if they use a dual threat or pro style qb, as long as they win. Not sure why DW4 is bringing it up. This type of stuff almost always leads to more chatter. The fewer distractions, the better. Gooooooo Tigers!!!

Why are Dobbs and Swag not just "top quarterbacks"? The designation qualifies their role. So who is the top quarterback in the SEC?

Way to only quote part of the statement, ESPN

He was actually just answering a question about why he took exception to NFL scouts questioning his throwing ability. He simply said that "dual threat" has become a code word which implies run first, throw second. That's all he said at first!
Then, Bleacher Report baited him into talking about race by asking the question, "How is it possible, after so many black quarterbacks have had successful careers in both college football and the NFL, that we're still dealing with those black-quarterback stereotypes?"
He actually provided a pretty accurate answer to an unfair question:
"I have no idea, but it's there. People think, 'Oh, he's a black quarterback, he must be dual-threat.' People throw around that word all the time. It's lazy. The one thing I learned early on as a football player is people have their opinions, and I can't change them. But I can show them what they're missing.People have assumed that I have to run the ball before I can throw it most all of my career, all the way back before high school. It's a stereotype put on me for a long time because I'm African-American and I'm a dual-threat quarterback. I don't know why that stereotype is still around. It's about talent and the ability to throw the ball, not the color of your skin or your ability to also be a dangerous runner. It bothered me when I was young until I finally realized the only way to change it is to make your mark on the field and force them to see. So that's what I've been doing."
Then, you've gotta respect how he ended this conversation and went on to say, "I think my teammates and I proved WE can throw the ball."
It's unfortunate that ESPN decided to extract only the race-baited dialogue from an otherwise excellent answer to a tough question and an overall well-done BR interview.

This drives me nuts

I'm a white female (and a millennial), but I love my football and I think DW4 is very talented.
I couldn't care less what color you are no matter the situation - everyone is a person, why does it have to be a (insert label) person? It really drives me nuts when the race card is pulled, especially among young people, when we're "supposed" to be the ones moving forward from all that. Stuff like this is a step in the wrong direction, in my opinion.
Even SVP seemed to be puzzled by this. What else are we supposed to call a QB who can run and throw? C'mon man!
Please be sure to tell us so we don't offend anyone from here forward...

Judging by the above comment, he did not play that card

Bleacher report is the one that established it as a race stereotype, and then asked DW4 "Why?". The stereotype wasn't that black QB's can run, it was that lazy scouts say they are run-first, dual-threat QB's as opposed to pass-first guys. His point is proven b/c those lazy scouts have been questioning his accuracy which, as you know, has been superb.
Just don't jump to conclusions.

Thanks for not reacting whitely and for providing that important context. Look at Dabo deflecting that same label away from Hunter Johnson on this site a couple of days ago. This is not the first time it has come up.

Here is some code. Todd McShay on why Brad Kaaya is better NFL prospect than Deshaun:
The guy processes information from what I see on tape so quickly and efficiently. He has good anticipation which you need to have if you don't have that elite big-time arm."
That's part of the code. He's Hawaiian so he has smarts. The shade is cast on Deshaun's mind -- which Clemson fans know, which Dabo knows, which Deshaun knows -- is ridiculous.

Throw the ball to Mike Williams when he has the chance and let's put 1000 TD's on the board this year. I can't wait

I think that is where this is coming from, he feels cheated and he was, not because of the color of his skin but his conference. We are all suffering prejudice, white, black, Asian, Hispanic you name it. If you are ACC you are inferior and if you don't believe it watch ESPN!
