Engineering Problem Paper

Apr 28, 2020, 11:37 AM

Do the kids still use this, or is homework all on line?

Remember being so excited when they came out with another color than green Think it was tan/orange.

Found some in a box of school stuff. Will mail it to you for free.

Used that in mechanical drawing my freshman year. Still use it to lay out landscaping plans. Good stuff!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

love that stuff. Used best with a high end mechanical pencil***

Man that brings back memories!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

seeing that

Apr 28, 2020, 8:00 PM

reminds me of the hellish 8:00 AM structures classes with Professor Mumford. Looking back I find him utterly fascinating, in that people like him really exist. The man did love to teach though. he would drop everything to help you if you had a problem.

Structures to me was Jac McCormac. He wrote the book. And free body diagrams were practiced in “Free Body Bob” Morman’s Statics class. He also sat front row, center court at every home basketball game. I remember him laughing at me for cripping across the lawn behind the library because I was on crutches after surgery for torn ACL over thanksgiving holiday. Also remember him waking me up in class. Lucky to have had him just before he passed. A true Clemson Gentleman.

"Happy Jack" was an awesome professor and author!

Maybe he's still around Clemson driving that light blue Chrysler K-car that he was so fond of. Bottles my mind that the most published civil engineering author drove such a relic...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jack was crazy smart. I graded papers for him one sememster

Apr 29, 2020, 5:51 AM [ in reply to Re: seeing that ]

He would do multiplication problems in his head in class and I'd punch the numbers on my calculator to check him. I had him for Structures Concrete and Steel. He was the best. I used his books for years after I got out of school.

He was like the only professor in engineering without a PhD, but nobody could touch him. His books were the most widely used books in Civil Engineering in America at the time.

I still use it at work for note paper, even tough it's much more expensive than when I was in school for engineering.

PB Nowack was another good engineering professor.

Very personable once you got to know him, but didn't take crap in class. If you were not making eye contact during class, you would get called out. I remember students gathered in his office before class just having a good time.

I had PB for statics and dynamics in summer school. I was on co-op program which afforded me the opportunity to go to summer school. Best summer of my life. I would go to morning classes, then chill on "East Bank" on the lake for a while, then study the books in the evening. Having just two fast paced classes at a time was great.
