Things learned Saturday, actually probably sooner!!

Nov 26, 2012, 1:45 PM

1 - Defense wins big games, over and over again.

2 - Clemson/Oregon/Tennessee style offense doesnt win against a strong D that is aggressive.

3 - Football is won on the line of scrimmage. Not some games, EVERY game!!

4 - Clemson D of the 80's is winning football yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

5 - Until we solidy our D and gain leverage at the lines of scrimmage we will never beat a top quality opponent like FSU or the Gamecocks!

We played a poor game and had opportunities but they were left on the field. S.Car played well and the game was decided on lines of scrimmage. We get better there, we win big games. We continually give up lane assignments on D line which is why Thompson was able to just rome about freely on several very key plays. Getting pressure on the QB is not the only objective a D lineman has but we are constantly leaving the middle of the field wide open to TE's, RB's, and QB runs which KILLED us Saturday... We make them kick field goal on the 3rd and 19 play and we have chance to take lead on next possession, instead we were totally deflated after the late TD.

We need a much better showing in our bowl game against SEC or recruiting could take a substantial blow with all this media talk about how poor the ACC quality is.

Go Tigers!!

Sorry bro I was just having a little fun. I forgot my little;). Trying to lighten the mood from all this doom and gloom on here.

I understand and its appreciated my fellow Tiger!

Doom and gloom will pass and the excitement for our bowl game and next year will reassert itself :)

I cannot agreed with you more....Clemson has to do

Nov 26, 2012, 2:04 PM [ in reply to Re: Things learned Saturday, actually probably sooner!! ]

a MUCH better job with their defense and the Line. Out scoring teams will NOT work against elite programs. Yes we are 10-2 and a chance to play another TOP SEC school. Win the Chick_fil-A Bowl, then this program is still on track of improving to elite status..But lose the Bowl game..or lose bad then Clemson still have not yet turn the corner. We have won 20 games in 2 years but the improvement have been very painful to watch. Beating high ranked teams is the next step.

The bright side — recruiting

Nov 26, 2012, 2:06 PM

5 more receivers & 2 O-linemen—Huh?

Absolute must-have recruits
Adams, Lawson, Alexander & Crowder

Have you looked at the OL depth chart this year, we lose 1, 1 OL this year. We will have 15 OL on roster next year, how many do you want?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

4 every year— Evenly spread out

Nov 26, 2012, 3:39 PM

Avoid the “young & inexperienced” excuse in years to come
They take time to develop

We lose 1 receiver (maybe 2), add 5, how many do we need?
They can play and be effective as freshmen — (ex. Sammy & Nuk)

I would rather be overloaded on the O-line than receiver

I would rather be overloaded on the D-line than receiver
I would rather be overloaded at DB than receiver
I would rather be overloaded at LB than receiver

Just my opinion, I love DEFENSE

We need ones who can DOMINATE!!

Nov 26, 2012, 3:49 PM [ in reply to Re: The bright side — recruiting ]

We need them to stop being beat off the ball and start laying a beatdown on the D lineman... The days of being beat in the trenches has to end before skill positions even matter...at least when playing team with elite talent!! Bama, Georgia, SCar, Florida all have defensive stalwarts that lead on the field and everyone else is better...who we got?? Exactly.

Agree 100% !***

A&M seemed to beat down big bad Alabama at home

Nov 26, 2012, 2:40 PM

Offense can win games, if it can get on the fiel, and if the tackles can block. Our offense couldn't get on the field and our tackles couldn't block.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Great win for A&M

Nov 26, 2012, 2:56 PM

But, A&M did not blow out Bama.
If not for an interception in the endzone A&M loses

Cherry picking games

“Tackles couldn’t block” — I guess recruiting 5 more receivers will help that

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A&M is exception and yes they needed huge play

Nov 26, 2012, 3:42 PM

at end of game to preserve a W...it was 20-0 in the 1st quarter before Bama realized what happened lol. You may be able to pick a time here and there where it happens that an explosive offense can beat a strong D, but its very rare indeed!! tigersblood is right, all the skill in world at skill positions doesnt give QB time to throw the ball... I will say this, we had our chance several times to make plays and were unable to do it!! 754 yards against Wolfpack is a distant memory now, but realizing our D gave up almost 600 is glaringly obvious now seeing how we were unable to get our D off the field in 2nd half...it was excruciating to watch them control ball nearly the entire 2nd half as our offense sat on sidelines being just as demoralized by what they saw as every one of the fans!!

Go Tigers!!
